Title: Fixed Price Servicing Announced @ VW Dealers
Post by: crimsonfin on 21 July 2010, 12:05
howdy

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this but got a call from VW dealer the other day to let me know that VW have now introduced fixed price servicing for cars 3-10 years old and up to 2.0L.

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/fixed-price-servicing (http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/fixed-price-servicing)

I was quoted £400 2 months ago to change cambelt but this has now been reduced to £300 - still not cheap granted but £100 off is better than nowt !

Looks actually quite good! But this bit is a bit odd:
Change cambelt (every 4 years)**
£299
Change cambelt including water pump replaced
£399

Why the extra £100 for the water pump? Its cost is about £40 and the labour is next to nothing if the cambelt is being done!

I had the cam belt changed on my 2005 golf gti at a main dealer for £199 not sure if they still run this offer it was end of last year.  This offer came through the post so if you register for their junk mail sometimes it does benefit you.

I work at audi stockport and we do an offer on the cambelts, cambelt and tensioner only for £329 and a cambelt, tensioner and water pump for £380, also we only replace at 75k miles or 5 years as reccomended by audi and i think the engine codes are the same on the diesels and the petrols, so dont know where they have got 4 years from.

That's interesting. VW at both Cardiff and Bridgend (both Sinclair VW) quoted the above prices to me today  I.e. £299 for cambelt and tensioners and another £92 on top if you have the water pump and fluids at the same time.
They do price match ( as long as using genuine vw parts) they'll match a quote from any other garage including independents. Mine is due end of next month as it's 4 years old.

if you are getting the the cambelt, tensioner and water pump deal or cambelt and tensioner deal you do not get the idler rollers, but this may vary from dealer to dealer so ask them, i would recomend getting a kit fitted at the same time and negotiate on the price , your better getting it all fitted in one go to save money, because if a roller fails you will have to pay the same price again. the 75k mies and 5 years only applys to 2004 cars onwards.

I had a look at the 'Fixed Price Servicing' page on the VW UK website and was impressed with the pricing. The offer an MOT for £30, or free if you're on the £299 3 year servicing deal.

My car needs and MOT, so I phone my preferred dealer (Martins of Basingstoke) to book it. I asked how much it would be and was told £54.50. I quoted the VW UK website price and was put on hold whilst the lady "checked with her manager".

She came back to me and said "Those prices are only for participating retailers. We're not a participating retailer. However, we will do the MOT for £30".

I don't recall anything about "at participating retailers" on the website!

No and if you ask VW CS they will say it's up to dealerships to sign up but that VW CS don't have a list of those who have! Shambles!

Interesting - the GTi I just bought is on Long Life servicing I think, but will VW charge me if I take up their offer and go on to Time and Distance servicing which I would prefer?

I guess they would use the lower quality oil for the Time and Distance service? On my last Gti I paid extra for Long Life oil to be used on the Time and Distance service.

Hummmmm. Think I will have to speak to my dealer.
