Title: Idle screw o-ring part number?
Post by: Deefadog on 06 January 2005, 14:52
Happy new year to you all!

I am after an idel screw o-ring, but the dealers can't seem to find it on their system (nothing new there then)

Could some who has got the ETKA software look it up for me please.

Thanks again

you cant get the o-ring from VAG. u cant even buy the screw complete with o-ring. u have to buy a new throttle body!!

go to halfrauds and pick up a set of multi-size o-rings and you'll find one that fits in it.

hmm reminds me of the new distributer o-ring i needed, but because its a 1/2 size you cant get them off the shelf and have to buy a new distributer

Just to double check (my mind has gone blank after xmas) on the idle screw, does the screw allow air from outside the screw to the inside or should no air get in from the outside?

Cheers

you want it to be airtight

yes. give the o-rings a little swab of grease also for a tighter seal

Should there be just one o ring in the middle of it?

Thanks

yeah there should only be one o-ring but i found when i tried putting on the new o-ring that it wasnt tight enough so i squeezed 2 into the groove

Thanks mate, the current o ring is really hard (like solid plastic) I have yet not found a suitable or ring, Halfrauds don't do them (well the one by me does not)

Did you have to cut yours off with a scalple?

I guess as long as the new o ring is just bigger then the diameter of the screw then it will do it's job?

Cheers

they go hard after time. cant remember how i get mine of but im near enough sure i cut it off somehow

the ones i got werent a perfect fit either. hence why i squeezed 2 on

Cheers, I'll get cutting away :)

(I may hav asked this beore, s forgive me if ihave but) Just a thought, if air is leaking here would this lower my mpg?

shouldnt lower the mpg that much. main reason for getting a tight fit is to stop the screw untwisting under engine vibration and slowly raising the idle speed

O well, I was hoping it would be that :(
