Title: seam welding

Hi,

 Does any one know much about seam welding? I'm just about to send my Mk1 off for a re spray and was thinking about gettin the top of the front turrets seam welded. Is there any where else i should think of and does anyone know what sort of welding is best? I would guess MIG but I'm not much if a welder!!!!     Cheers troops!!

you just re weld all the joins that would have been spot welded from the factory, i would of thought arc welding would be the best way :huh:

Not sure about best, but mig welding is surely the easiest, even I can do it ! :grin:

Sounds like fun!!!!! :laugh:  Think I'll give that a miss though! Just thought that while the cars being stripped I may as well do jobs like this, any one got any good suggestions on a nice colour?

Go with the mig welder.

Arc welding would be far more difficult especially the area you are talking about welding.

cet. torches are really good however it takes some skill.

My dad is a welder and can use most methods to weld.

he suggested using a mig welder.

The only way to seam weld is using a mig welder we seam welded my mates mazda 323 famila race car a month ago its crazy you go around a bend and the inside back wheel lifts off the ground thats how much difference it made i wasn't expecting that now we have to re set all the suspenion.

Most decent hire shops can hire you one and have stocks of the wire and gas etc.

depends whether your gonna be doing it yourself I suppose.

All your doing when you seam weld is taking away the slight give that normal spot welded panels have.
