Title: Key won't go into door lock!
Post by: 4thQuarter on 20 July 2010, 01:45
Hi all,
The driver side lock barrel on my dad's TDI has got stuck and so the key will only go halfway in.
He is having to lock/unlock from the passenger side.

We have given it some wd40 and wiggled the key around to try and get it to go all the way into the lock (very advanced technique I know!).

I've undone the torx bolt on the edge of the door, but the barrel only comes out halfway because the key won't go all the way into the lock we can't turn the key to get the lock barrel all the way out the door!

Any ideas on how to remove barrel?
Thanks in advance!

open the door, there is a big screw in the door at the side, you need to unscrew that and becarefull that it doesnt fall

then after its un done, then you can remove the handle

You should not need to turn the key to remove the complete handle Buddy. With the screw undone then the handle should just pull out as one at the lock end and then it's just got to be twisted out the other end. If my memory serves me right then there is a clip on the front handles. Just give it a bit more force but not too much as you don't want to break it.
