Can anyone tell me if i can be insured third party only on any car if my main insurance is only third party fire and theft. Or do i have to have fully comp to have that on my policy?
-
hi m8 ive had tpft and was never offered that option only seems to be fully comp but i could be wrong
-
Never heard of it being offered on just TPTF . Check your policy , or phone the company up , just dont risk it .

I looked into this about three months ago.... you can only be insured to drive any car if your fully comp. :(
-
thought so tyhe thing is tpft in some cases can be more expensive then fully comp ??? insurance companies are rip off merchants!!!
-
You can but an 'any car' TPFT policy... HIC do one.

You can buy an 'any car' policy on TPFT, HIC used to do one.

If you have fully comp insurance that allows you to drive other vehicles on a Third Party basis, then you are only covered if the vehicle you're driving is already insured. Basically if you own two cars and insure one fully comp if you haven't insured the other at all your third party insurance for other vehicles won't be valid on that car. How this works on TPFT insurance I don't know but I assume it's the same. ???
I wouldn't recommend this but one way of getting around this sort of thing is to set yourself up as a "Motor Dealer" and get dealer insurance which can sometimes work out cheaper than having two seperate policies. Insurance is a pile of S*** though.
I hope this helps and also that it's correct.

Hi Michael..........you are correct.
Another stipulation on driving other vehicles on a third party basis is you usually have to be over 25 years old. I'm insured TPFT on my Audi and I can drive other vehicles on a third party basis i.e Hazel's Audi.
As you say, I can't drive the Golf on that basis as someone needs to insure it, hence I had to take out a seperate policy.
Hope that makes sense???

A few years back, I had a policy with Eaglestar, TPFT + TP any other car with owner's permission. Give 'em a call, they might still offer one! :)

Cheers mate!

is the 1st driver the only one allowed to drive other cars tpft or does this apply to the 2nd, 3rd etc drivers as well. also do you have to be over a certain age (25?)?

I think only the main (or 1st) driver on the policy can drive other cars third party only.
