I've been thinking about lowering my cab for a while now but for the time being I'm just going do the springs first and then maybe in the future I'll get some new shocks, looked on t'internet today and found these prices for Eibach pro-kit springs
Awesome GTi = ?135.13 (but don't know delivery charge yet)
www.motorsportworld.co.uk = ?138.57 + ?9 delivery = ?147.57
Are they about the right prices for Eibach springs ? :undecided:
Another quick question, will I be ok by just changing the springs and not the shocks ? :undecided:
-
i wouldnt bother buying them from awesome gti, they properly messed me about when i was buying them from them, like promising delivery dates that never happened, then when you phone up its another person who hasnt got a clue and blames it on the other person, bunch of cowboys there in the ordering department
-
On the few bits that I've got from them I wasn't that impressed either, I also think they charge top dollars too . The motorsportworld address I put in my first post seem like a good little company, I reckon when I get some I'll go with them. By the way, veedub, did you change your shocks as well as springs ?? :undecided:
-
i got mine for ?123 delivered - that was probably about a year ago - wasnt from Awesome GTi either
-
Where did you get yours from Gambit ? Did you change shocks too ? :undecided:
-
yep i got the koni adjustable shocks to go with them, a reccomended combo  just got to find somewhere or someone whos got some eibach arb's too
-
i got mine from Carnosseur in Edinburgh. i knew the fella who owned it (via another forum) and he done me a deal
i replaced the front shocks as they where knackered but left the rears as they where only about 3mths old
u dont need shortened shocks as they only drop 25-30mm
have you thought about getting the Bilstein Streetline kit from EuroCarParts? drops 40mm and is a full kit (shocks & springs) for a v.reasonable price (?175+vat) stuart will even give you 10% off

Not a bad price at all but do you know anything about the Bilstein kits ? Any good ? I'm in Leeds anyway so I can pop in and see Stuart so I don't even need to get them delivered. Shocks and springs ! It's a minefield !

veedub, how much did that little lot come to then if you don't mind me asking ? Excuse my ignorance but what are eibach arb's ?
-
arb's = anti roll bars
Bilsteins are on par with Koni's when it comes to shocks. dunno what the springs will be but you can ask Stuart, but im sure they'll be half decent
im running Bilsteins at the moment and cant fault them
-
got the shocks 2nd hand fairly cheap, springs were brand new from awesome, and arb is anti roll bars. i think the shocks and springs usually go for around ?450ish new, but they are the best thing before coilovers ?
-
Thanks for the replies, I think I might have a look at Gambit's idea of the bilsteins from ECP as the eibach/eibach/koni setup is going to be quite costly and at the end of the day they are going on a hairdresser car  so it's more about the look with some comfort rather than for out and out performance.

Springs are Ventura. Anyone know anything about them ?
-
by the sounds of what you want id get some new original shocks and a set of lowering springs. i think you can go 40mm max on the original shocks :undecided: how old are your struts on the car now?
-
Dunno, but I've had the car nearly two years and I haven't changed them so could be years old. The shocks from ECP are bilstien it's just the Ventura springs that I haven't heard anything about. :undecided: Like I said earlier, it's a fekkin minefield this to me !
-
ventura springs retail for about 80-100 on their own. they are mid range quality spring
-
just get some eibach springs then if your shocks look ok, looking at your pic id say a 25mm drop would be perfect  you can always buy some good shocks at a later date if you want
-
It's in for it's MOT on Monday so I'll ask the lad at the garage to give the shocks a once over to see what he thinks, I wont be doing the work so I guess that my thinking was that I could get the springs and shocks done in one go and save myself some labour charges in the long run. Was thinking of going down 40mm though :undecided:
-
Thanks to Gambit pointing me in the right direction I've just been to see Stuart at ECP and got myself some Bilstein shocks and some Ventura springs for the sum of ?135, it's booked in to get them all fitted on Saturday morning.
-
make aure you get a decent side on pic of the car before & after its dropped so we can all have a gander!!!!
although it'll take about 1/2weeks for the car to fully drop
-
Good idea, I'll get one done before the weekend and then take another one in a couple of weeks. Thanks for your help and advice on this.
-
no probs mate
-
I had mine lowered by 40mm last year. I bought Boge springs from German and Swedish for ?78!
I've still got original shocks on the front with Boge gas filled shocks on the back. I think it's a good kit
