Title: Wax on, wax off
Post by: jonnygo on 17 July 2010, 16:15
I was offered a "permanent" wax by VW when I bought my car but refused as I am paying the car off over 4 yrs and £350 becomes a lot more over that period of time.

...so at the moment I am waxing using Mr Turtle and was given some Autoglym for Christmas

What do people think of permanent shells or it is just as good to have the satisfaction of rubbing your own stuff on?

There is no such thing as permanent wax. Yeah granted some last longer than others but nowhere near permanent.
Everyone will have there own preference. I just use a cheap Poorboys wax that lasts a couple of months.

If you really want the stuff VW were trying to sell you for £350, you can get it here for £15 delivered (http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p2897.m570.l1313&_nkw=autoglym+life+shine&_sacat=See-All-Categories)

Collinite 746 is more or less permanent .
It's not really but one of the most durable waxes out there. It will easily last 6 months and you only use a bit putting it on.

Optimum has a sealant that isnt available to the public but it is to select detailers that will last a couple years. Its almost considered a second clear coat.

I had the Autoglym lifeshine done on mine.

Still beading water 9 months later.

Had it on my mk5 and that beaded until I sold it a year and a bit later.

Not sure how long it lasts but at least a year.

How much did it cost and where did you have it done?

Cheers

I have always used Diamond Brite on my car and it does a good job keeping the shine for 6 months and the beading lasts about 4.

I am tempted to try the Lifeshine as shown on ebay. Anybody know if they are roughly the same products?
