Title: oak green 16v (teard drops finnaly on her)
Post by: rich1977 on 16 July 2010, 23:23
had her 2 weeks shes still being cleaned atm, on her 5th coat of wax lolol, engine bay is being done 2morro and then I will start to look at adding a few bits, mk3 door handles, crystal clear fog lights, different rims and coil overs + plenty more

previous owner deserves all the credit for what she looks like as we speak

decided to get my arse into gear and start getting stuff sorted on her and my first port of call was the engine bay.

looked like this on saturday morning.

not the worse looking but I was ashamed of it lol, so ordered a new coolant tank, loads of seals, temp sensor and few other bits and bobs and started stripping down the inlet plenum and removed rocker cover for painting.

quite pleased with how they turned out, going to remove slam pannel and other bits next weekend paint block, oil pump asembly and anything that doesnt look shiney lol.

right not really for much done till today other than cleaning brackets and random stuff for painting, and few pics of it going back together.

decided to give the block a quick coat of black.

then decided head didnt look right so did that silver

got to try and get the inner wing areas cleaned up and pollished in morning before re-fitting air box and metering head atm it looks like this

ive re-fitted the rocker and cam cover with new stainless steel bolts and gaskets, 3 bolts didnt fit though so got to go and buy new ones can you guess which ones they are lol

got to get the loom all re-taped in morning and clean up all the connectors and then hopefully get some more stuff re-fitted got new g60 top mounts to go on soon, and got to paint the fan housing also
i know its no where near show standard but think its a improvement.

all opinions good and bad welcome

Will probably use tfr and loads of hot soapy water and a stiff brush to clean the inner wing then get the machine polisher in there.

It's killed me to do what I have today though as suffering from flu and spent the day on red bull and lemsip, paying for it now though

well then shes more or less finished now, most of the bay is back together and she actualy ran for the first time in 6 weeks, there are a few bits im not happy with like the wirring around gearbox area and need to get gearbox cleaned and painted, also the fan cowling needs painting. Im not convinced I have the breather and vac hosing plumbed in right and have a green wire from the where the coil pack and dizzy wirring come through the bulkhead with no home, also the big black wire that comes from bulkhead are I presume is a earth as car wouldnt start until I earthed it lol.

anyway heres pics as I have said before not show standard but a improvement.

Where you get those water pipes from? I need a custom one, got an 8v mk2 top hose atm, but thats cracking allready due to a poor fit, so those hoses would work a treat.

there standard hoses with one of those cheap ebay overbraided kits on, not happy with how the top hose looks tbh which is why im going samco, happy with the others though but going to change the tape ive used on the ends to finish them with blue heat shrink once i get the samcos.

decided to start on my interior this weekend after picking up a mint set of mk3 gti seats. anyway here's my tired looking drivers seat.

now as most will know mk3 fronts wont fit a mk2 as legs to wide, rather than cut the frame down and weld decided to try the other method of mounting mk3 backs on mk2 base.

anyway base without rainbow on it.

then fitted the mk3 foam and fabric over it.

and then fitted the mk3 back onto the base.

no pics yet of them in the car but well happy with how they look got to sort the rear bench out next weekend then re-trim my door cards to match, fand lastly fit the mk3 centre console.

need to get her out in a corrado or a decent mk3 and she might change her mind.

Diesels are ok, petrols eat headgaskets.
Title: Re: oak green 16v (new seat pics) page 5
Post by: rich1977 on 20 February 2011, 21:43
to be fair its only the k series engines that kill headgaskets.

the t series that is found in all the 2.0 petrol turbos are fine, there was a problem with oil seeping from the front right hand corner but that was sorted in 94 when the klinger 2 layer gasket was fitted. its a great engine and doesnt get the credit it deserves tbh

anyway im still working on her to keep me in vws as realy dont want a sodding rover with a bright orange grill and tarts red interior

God I hate these motors and it seems im not the only one.

The pensioner's favourite car crappily modified.... by its manufacturers!

The Rover BRM was limited edition based on the Rover 200, (dreadful piece of crap). Released in 98 and withdrawn in 99 it is supposed to be based on a BRM Formula 1 car. It's enough to leave Graham Hill spinning in his grave with its puke-inducing orange grille and fake aluminium trim. The red leather seats and carpet are straight out of a bondage den! The launch price of this car was £18000! You would have had to be clinically insane to pay that for a dressed-up Rover 200 that's older than Jupiter. Several price reductions hastily followed however and they are still treasured today by a few enthusiastic morons.

Dutch Carmagazine "Autoweek" mentioned the following issue.

The German AA (ADAC) released it's 2001 statistics.

It seems that the Rover 200 performs very bad in reliability. With 45,6 stranded cars/1000 cars it is outperformed by every car in it's class.

They only seem to damage the gaskets tho, not the heads.
