Title: Cam belt, water pump, DSG service needed

Cam belt, water pump, DSG service needed

My car is 1,000 miles (3 weeks) away from needing the above work doing, any recommendations on where to get it done (South Manchester area)

It will also need its 4th service at the same time, which I will get done at VW crew (due to it already being paid for as part of a service plan). I would rather not get them to do the other work as I think they plan to use parts made from frankincense and unicorns for the labour, this is the only explanation I can come up with to support their quote...

My car has also developed a clonk noise, which seems to be coming from underneath in the middle of the car. There is no noise when the car goes into or changes gear but occasionally (once a day) when drive is taken up or relaxed i can hear it.

Could it be one of the gearbox drive shafts ? Any one got any experience of this type of noise and therefore what the normal suspects are ????

Cheers

this is what i did - i have a vw warranty, therefore the water  pump is covered. so I shopped around and got the best VW deal for changing the cambelt only. as is recommended the rest is covered. Didn't make sense to pay for something that may not fail and if it does it is covered!!
cheers dave

possibly the engine sway mount on the bottom of the gearbox i have replaced a few on the a3's and a lad i know who works for vw said they have had snaped bolts on the mount to gearbox.

Awesome GTI are in Irlam if you don't mind going to a tuning specialist rather than a VW dealership
