Title: Ed30 Values
Post by: billy2shots on 16 July 2010, 12:40
Been keeping an eye on Edition 30 values over the last couple of months with a view to getting one.
I am now in a position to act but the bloody prices seem to have shot up. Great news for owners but not for potential buyers.
Last month (when i didnt have the money) there were 3 near me, 5 door dsg at a vw garage for just under £16k. Now i have the money in my pocket they seem to be just shy of £18k.

You owners might have seen it different to me but here are my findings having looked 3 times a day on various sites and forums over the past 2 months.

Ed30's were coming up for sale and selling reasonably quick due to realistic price.
Then a few crazy private sellers seemed to over value their cars by about £2-£3k.
Garages saw this and whacked their prices up.
The private sellers have struggled to sell and their cars are hanging around with the odd good value one being snapped up fast.
The dealers have kept prices up knowing that most people would rather pay the same high price for a vw approved car than a private sale with no come back.

Maybe you guys see it different?

5 door versions are more sort after then 3 door variants.

Again with Dsg, there is a greater demand for this car, dealers are fighting over auction when trying to purchase to add to their own stock.

3 door manual with low spec are into the 13's, whereas even my 56plate , reletively high spec with Average mileage, would sell for near 16k still.

Mine is a 5 door 57 plate manual STD spec 22k miles?  How much should I be asking?

I will give you £10k lol.

Seriously from what i have seen people that over value their cars just end up reducing the price hugely when they get desperate. Just look in the classifieds on this site, P/X was so low the fella sold it privately. Price came down and down untill it sold for £12k.

Of course the desired spec cars will always hold their value better thats just obvious car sales 101. What i cant understand is how last month on Autofinder you could get a 5 door dsg with a few bits 15k miles for £15,995 from a VW dealer. Pistonlegs had loads around the £14k mark with rns510. Now for same spec cars you looking at £17,995.

As i said before this is great news for owners so i am honestly pleased you the owners out there but i am just trying to understand what happened in a month. VAT is set to rise but thats not untill next year that is bound to have an affect on used prices (for the better). I could also understand if the rise was across the used car sector like it was 6 months to a year ago but i can only see it in the Ed30.

The only thing i have seen is a few private sellers over valueing their cars then the dealers following suit. Now looking at it from a buyers point of view and in an ideal world, no one would buy at those over inflated prices and they would come down to their natural level again. However as the Ed is a lovely piece of kit some just want to get their hands on it and a choice between an £18k car from VW or an £18k private sale is an easy one. This will in turn lead to private sellers having to reduce their cars greatly to pick up sales and that will then force the dealers to reconsider their prices but not for a few months and not before stealers have cleaned up.

Just my 2p worth.

I would guess around the £14500 to £15500, if it has no other extra's, then in the lower half my estimate.

I agree I'm not greedy and the car is immaculate so will put it up at £14,500 and see what interest there is.

That is a sensible approach.

This is not.

No they listed it wrong. Defo dsg.

These prices are driving me mad. Why didnt i have the money last month

Help i am even starting to look at Audi S3, for the price of a decent ED30 you can get a good spec s3. Someone talk sense into me.

Part of me thinks bugger it just get a well speced Gti but i had one and an R32 so was looking at ED30s really.

S3= dull, too composed , lacks fun factor, too clinicle. Nicer Interior.
Ed30= Great looker, fun and exciting to drive, front wheel drive, can go just as fast as an S3.

Easy really when you think about it.

Sit on your money. One will turn up

If you can afford the S3, then go for it. Slightly heavier which dulls performance, but you will have grip, which is the one thing I miss. Slightly better interior too, especially if you get one with the sports buckets. Needs a remap though to make the most of the grip.

Stick in there, i'm sure you'll find one in time and trust me it'll be worth it.  I got mine from Motorpoint two years ago when VW had stopped selling them for £18k, can't believe the garages are still selling them for that price 2nd hand!

I am trying to sell my 5dr 08 edition 30 for around £15,000 but have had no interest at all. I've got it listed everywhere I can think of but nothing

Thats a sensible price. I was looking to spend up to £17k for a good spec one. Trouble is i needed to shift my car so could only look at dealers. Hang in there mate im sure someone will buy it.

In the end a Pirelli came up near me at the same price as older ED30's so i did the deal and pick her up on Friday

Fair play mate - enjoy the Pirelli!

I've had a couple of dealers offering £13,000/£13,500. Not good!

Cheers for the linky
