Morning all, I was just wondering, does anyone know if you can get an updated DVD with newer maps on it? My road is pretty new and isn't on current system I've got.
MK5, 2006, GTi.
Cheers

i would be intrested in this 2 as i have a 2007 gti and my maps are out of date in some places, and it gets confusing :(

Yeah thats the problem im getting. I cant find anything on the VW website either...
-
It'd probably be cheaper to buy a standalone sat nav or use your phone if it's capable.
-
that defeats the point of having that massive screen in the middle of the dash. Ive found a link on Pirate Bay, but im nervy about downloading it and running it on my system.
-
try fleabay, you can buy second hand discs cheap there
also try the forums on vwnavi.com they are always helpful.

There's a guy in portugal selling copies for around 50 euros - blagged myself a 2010 map with TMC enabled to for traffic re-routing.
-
TMC is already enabled, has been on my RNS 510 since new.
-
TMC is std on RNS 510 but never offered by VW on the MFD2 - the OP has a 2006 GTi.

Is this guy on Ebay?

www.navigationgpscar.com
you will need 3 discs;
firmware upgrade
hack to enable backup discs to be inserted
latest map DVD

My GTI is a 2006, does this mean I have the RNS 510? The only reason I ask, is cos all the pics ive seen on Google look different to mine.
Slightly confused...

Most likely you have mfd2, it should say so on power up. Still it's easy to tell. They are quite different beasts. Use the search function. RNS is touch screen, 3d map, sd card, hard disc etc.
Tmc? Is that traffic info? I've got the mfd2 and I get traffic information. I'll post a pic if needed.
-
Yes, you can get traffic info on the MFD2 if you have a 2008 disc or later.
VW will tell you that it's not available!

i have v6.1 which iv modified and added speed cameras. im happy to share as long as forum rules permit??

TMC are data packets of traffic info rather than the audio traffic announcements, the SatNav is then supposed to automatically embargo that section of road and reroute.
TMC is already enabled, has been on my RNS 510 since new.
Does TMC actually work for anyone in the UK, I supposedly have if on my mfd2, but it never appears to be able to find a station providing TMC.
Is there a newer version of the maps for MFD2? The CD says I have V3.
-
As I said in my post above, if you get the latest DVD, it does enable TMC (it usually locks onto the Classic FM TMC channel).
I think you need v8, but please check.
