this means the fuse and input to the dash lights dimmer knob are fine, so id say switch is broke or a wire has come adrift. looks for loose grey/white wires, also check the jumper blocks up under the dash, the grey one iirc is dash lights.

or you have the dimmer knob turned all the way down ;)

check the fusebox faq in the mk2 section, page 2 covers the MK3 fusebox (same as post-90 MK2) it also has a list of relays and what they do.

its not a fuse problem, the dash lights and the number plate lights are running from the same fuse so thats been ruled out. so the issue is either with the dash light dimmer knob being broken or set to minimum, or a fault with the wire from the switch to the dash lights.

actually, do the switches light up?

ok yeah, looks liek a wiring fault or a problem with the dimmer switch. follow the grey/blue wire from the dimmer switch as best you can, behind the dash you should find some jumper blocks, the grey one i think is for the dash lights feed

right, just removed the dimmer unit as i already have the clocks etc out. one of the wires ( black and white ) has been cut and then spliced into another black and white wire but apart from that i cant see anything wrong. the weird thing is when i collected the car the other night only half the clocks were lit up but now nothing at all ???

hmm can you follow the other black/white wire to where it goes? maybe the fuse for this wire has gone./ trouble is untill you track down where it goes you wont know which fuse it is

right then i think its the clocks themselves that are knackered, i sorted that wire out and the one light at the top is working but not the rest......

if you got at least 1 bulb going then that prob just means you have some blown bulbs in the dash :)

i see dash strip down and wire following in your future :(
first thing id do is change the dimmer switch, cant remember if its part of the headlight switch or not. if you can get some spare clocks its worth a try though
