Cheers JV! :)

Right, where do i start! been on this forum for a while now, thought i best start a project thread.

Heres my old GTi i used to have:

With the GTi sold and me looking for a VR6, i stumbled upon a cheap VR6 with slight rear damage, unfortunately it had been declared a CAT C write off. I figured i would go take a look anyways as i wanted to do a conversion into a Mk2 at some stage. Turned out the damage wasn't as bad as i first thought, Channel Island garage charges are stupidly high, this being an old car, meant it wasn't feasable for the insurance company to fix it! It was bought back and in the end, ended up in my hands. I'm hoping to restore it to it's former glorey

Any way here is when i picked her up!

Looking a little worse for wear, expansion tank look like it exploeded! I've checked it over and it's all fine now thankfully.

Alot more pics to follow!

Hope you enjoy reading it!!!

Okay 1st thing i did was to give it some lows and painted the badges white!

SPAX PSX kit 60mm drop all round:

Can you see the size difference?

Sitting on it's new suspension with the badges white.

The damage was behind the bumper, replaced the bumper and you couldn't really notice it. There was a slight crack where the Golf VR6 bagde was and there's about an 3mm bigger gap between the light and the boot.

Heres what it should look like:

Sorry the pictrues won't flip!!

I took the bumper off and this is the damage:

That's pretty much it apart from the slight crack above that.

Next came the DIY rust repair, never done anything like this before!

Area in question:

Treated the rust and filled:

Then painted, sanded, painted and laquered:

Not a bad result if you ask me! :afro:

This is only a temp measure until i can afford to get all rust patches cut and welded up, ready for it's respray

The head unit was pants so i fitted my Sony DVD player with a flip out 7" screen  (Screen doesn't come out now automatically, you have to pull it )

Ditched the sh!tty momo gear knob for this:

Cut down the gear shaft by about 2" with a grinder, changing gears is soo much nicer now! :)

After doing the diy jobby on the rust i thought i would try spraying my debadged grille i had from my white GTi.

Spraying it:

On the car:

I like it with the badge on

Next i decided that i didn't like the orangey in the lights and that i wanted either just clear or red! I'm going with a white and burgundy theme

New side repeaters:

New front fogs with built in tow eye blank and new indicators:

And lastly, not to everyones taste but the clear and red rear lights:

Sorry for the double posting!! but i like to keep up with everything in this thread where i can keep it clean

Right not much more to add now!

My balls grew so i decided to do some more diy spraying!  :undecided:

Black bumpers annoyed the sh!t out of me, so i did a test to see if i could/would like a colour coded car!

I did use etch primer as i was too cheap to buy plastic primer but this is only a trial and i know it will/has started to peel and crack

Didn't like the black bumper and arch trim colour, but i liked the look and texture. So instead of going down the dearch route. I decided to give it a colour code myself  i had previously done the grille (which was the 1st thing i sprayed) and it came out okay, then i did the spoiler which also came out okay.

Bit the bullet and £50 later i had:

couple of sheets of 400 grit paper
2 1/2 cans of made up paint to match the paintwork (spot on match as well!)
2 BIG rolls of masking tape
3 whole news papers lol

Well it started off by being masked and then lightly sanded to remove any small imperfections. didn't take the trim off as this will be happening when i tackle the arch work which i'm hoping is fine!!

After that it was then completely covered with news paper, primered and sprayed

I was very happy with the result and this is how it came out

Yes the car does sit that low, it does scrape and i do need to higher it lol

Also picked up genuine VR6 splitter off my old GTi

First got it:

Engine cover and quick clean:

Now:

There are parts that need to be cleaned up and done properly. White Samco hoses are on the list a long with a BMC CDA induction kit.

A nice little package arrived for me today with the shiny bits i've been waiting for since the the 3rd of July. Venom were good at keeping me in the loop as to what stage we were each week. :afro:

Me and my mate will be fitting this tomorrow:

All the bits are sorted and clamped so i know what to use tomorrow and what i don't need!!

Now roll on my other order

Trying not to do a half assed job like i did to the other Golf lol

Hopefully it will give me some time to tidy up the engine bay as well. Get the VW badge painted on the engine cover. It is all colour coded at the moment but you can't see it in the pictures!

Will be on tomorrow and going to sound awesome! Might polish the TB whilst i'm at it??

More updates to follow tomorrow!!!

Oh on another note, popped it off the limiter with the new exhaust on and a little bit of sex wee came out!

Induction kit is on with the new 83mm hose, have managed to direct the kit to face the inner corner side of the wing, away from the engine so should pick up cold air. If not i'll run the cold air feed.

Here are some pics!!

Right here is my latest project I've taken on:

Bought these wheels with almost two brand new tyres on, one crappy one and one with out!

What they looked like (Rather corroded!)

Sent them off to be sand blasted £25 per wheel. Declined the option to have them primered for an extra £40. They came back primered for free!!!

Centre caps before and after:

Here's my progress so far:

Time to update!

Noticed my exhaust wasn't sitting straight and it turned out to be a clamp at the end of the decat, with that tightened it now sits straight

Although i did find this rather disturbing...

Well over the weekend, i decided to joey up my headlights.

Seeing as black doesn't tie in with my colour scheme, i did this...

Before: (old pic)

During:

After:

In the pictures you can't really see the difference but in person it looks awesome!!

Here is my latest little adventure.

A few reasons for the strip out.

I need to replace the headlining as it is sagging
Need to rewire all speakers to an Amp.
Need to get the drivers side rear arch looked at as there is a small fold!
Want to check for rust or and evidence of a water leak.

Also it could do with a real tidy up!!

Mess!

Rear seats out
(http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/16102010186.jpg)

Door cards and rear carpet
(http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/16102010189.jpg)

All carpets up and sound deadening
(http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/16102010191.jpg)

Side view
(http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/16102010190.jpg)

All the sh!t i've removed..

Carpets cleaned and put back in. Also head unit wires have been tidied up.

That's how it stands at the moment as it was too blooming cold to do any more!

My mate picked up a smashed 16v with a Vento front end for next to nothing. He salvaged the front end, sold the engine and made his money back. I then went nit picking and picked this up for £120..

2 month old AP Front Coilovers and an FK debadged grill. The coilovers as a set usually retail at around £400 for the set and the grill is £20 so not at all bad i don't think. Will have to see how bad the damage is from all the arch scraping

Decided to get hold of some CL rear lights, here is my take on them!

Out come so far:

Before:

After:

Ended up tintin all the red to try match it up as the indicator was darker. Masked off where the reversing lights are so they will stay white

Camera flash makes them look weird, but i can assure you they look spot on!

In my attempts to make the car look smooth and clean, here is my latest little adventure...

De-arched and side skirts all off..

No rust at all which is a bonus. Only issue is front wing where the side skirt rivets into there is a tiny patch will i will just grind off

Now looking for some complete CL trim if anyone has any they want to sell me :)

Side trim eventually on!! What a mission that was to get on!

Fk Air intakes..i wouldn't recomend them...i had to modify the bumper and grind some the slam panel to get them to fit!!

Bonnet lifters on, that was easy!

Right, pics, every one likes pics!

Have also done the fogs and indicators.

And i got an Arial of Ebay, much better then my old perished one :)

It's not to everyones taste but it does look smart when it's dark.

Front bumper will be getting smoothed off so i will be losing the fogs and indicators anyways.

As promised, here are some pics of the mirrors on!

Spraying:

The loom made up for the motors:

Mirrors together with the motor in:

Then now fixed on the car:

Only real issue is this:

Over hangs which is annoying, but nothing i can't deal with :)

And both them on:

Haven't updated this for some time. Still haven't really bothered to do much haha

after splashing out on my new phone and my Tattoo which is over £500 just for the two months, progress has been slow!

After trouble with my lights i decided to try something new. Heat gun out and my old fly eye kit back out gave me this result:

Here is my new back end, have left the lock in place. I will when i can be bothered to, paint it.

Yes i know the exhaust isn't sitting straight, i'll try get that sorted when ever i can be bothered..

Decded after 6 months that the scrubbing was starting to annoy me! Since going lower i rub all the time so i decided to tackle the arches with my trusty grinder!

Trolly Jack has broke so the widow maker had to come out!

Bye, bye arches!
