Title: Replaced Speedo Cable, now Fuel pump fuse is burning out?
Post by: mboon on 15 July 2010, 13:44
As above,

replaced the speedo cable and cog, started the car fine, sounded a little lumpy and then I could hear the hissing sound of burning plastic, look down and the 20 amp fuse for the fuel pump is burning up..

Its number 18 fuse. 1 being on the left and 18 being close to the right.

Any ideas? Just trying a new fuse now, the original fuse did not blow just burnt up so I shut it off.

Everything I touch on this car I find another problem! Really starting to grind on me now.

That can't be related in any way, the speedo cable just clicks into the clocks and the gear box, no electrics involved. Must be another problem

check the wiring for the wur on the side of the head, maybe you caught it when you were messing with the speedo cable

Cheers Jon,

It was a plastic cover going over one of the cables that had slid down and caused a arc. All sorted now, that wont be happening again.

Got my speedo cable in as well and the MPH is working! wahoo! Just need the rev counter to work now lol

I replaced my speedo cable and then the wipers front, rear and fan stopped working  So know what you mean.
Turned out to be the relay for the wipers but still confused as to why the fan has packed up.
Must've earthed something as in my haste to get it sorted I "may" have forgotten to disconnect the battery :embarassed:

But yes, my current mk2 just keeps on giving me things to sort out. Reckon I'll eventually get to a point when there's nothing left to replace and it'll be reliable.
