Title: Oil Temps on a 16 GTi?
Post by: mboon on 14 July 2010, 11:13
Hi all,

What sort of oil temp do you guys get on your GTi 16v?

According to the computer, ours is going as high as 110.The water never goes above halfway.

It sites on a drive around 100?

is this right?
sounds hot to me...
My M3 only goes to 80 degrees.

The oil looks nice and clean etc

Yeap that sounds about right for a 16v. They do run hot - nothing to worry about.

Yeah sound's 'bout right.

16v KR runs at a similar temp to the shuttles nose cone on re-entry.

I'd only start to worry when it gets up to 120's+ and stays there, that'd suggest a blocked rad or waterpump on it's last legs.

Yeah mine runs at about 106-110 under normal driving and gets up to 120 in traffic but doesn't seem to have any problems

I went to top up the oil once after driving from cold for 3 or 4 minutes and the cams were already sweating.

As above, normal driving 100 mark, traffic upto  106, fan kicks in around 100 to 102 on my valver.

Nothing to worry about my mk1 use to hit 120 plus and give me brown pants
