I have a 2006 mk5 gti, and i thought it needed re-gassing, i sent it to i well known garage and they went to test the system and found a crack in the compressor, they didnt do any work on it and advised me the part alone is stupidly expensive, somewhere around the £500 mark, now i know thats a lot of money. However after looking on eBay i managed to find some second hand compressors in working order which have come out of mk5 golfs but with smaller engines, i was wondering if this part would easily fit into my golf or do larger engined cars require specific parts.
Any help would be much appreciated

Check part numbers mate.If there the same it should fit & i think a genuine one from VW is closer to a grand than 500.00 quid.

oh right ok, i have spoke to another mechanic friend of mine, he thinks one for this car is around the £500 mark, but i was hoping to get hold of something a bit cheaper, he is looking to see if part numbers will match up to see if he can put a working used part in their.

I just spoke to a salvage yard near where i am, and they confirmed they have 2 in stock, they have stated that both are in working order, however they said that there are 3 different compressors that could be in my car, so they said they will put the car up on the ramp and confirm that information, if they have one they will let me have it for £75.00, so will let you know how much they will sell it for.
