Hi all
Been offered a pair of badges like the chrome ones on our GTI's but in red.
Must admit I quite fancy them (think they'll look good on a black car) but would be worried about removal of the chrome ones and putting these in their place.
I know some of you have done this mod so how easy is it
Thanks

Very easy gizzy. The badges are held on with double sided sticky foam.
1. get a hair blower and aim it at the original badges.
2. Then I used some dental floss (as using a scraper can damage the paint) and I used it to cut between the badge and the paint. It should come off like butter. If not a little more heat will do it.
3. A little wipe down with a cleaning agent to remove any leftover glue and sticky foam.
4. Stick on your new badge
(my letters came in a plate so they went on straight, if you didn't get this plate then I'd advise you arrange the letters before they go on. It's pretty much a one-go job)
If you need any more advice let me know.
(ps. the front ones are the same but you may find the black backplate is a little bigger than your letters so space them out as you best decide)

As usual with you, very informative and useful advice which is much appreciated.
Many thanks

The above advice is good. I have used this method several times with excellent results. However, I have seen these red GTI badges and, IMHO, they don't look nice. Too close to TDI... Just my €2

Gizzy, another idea you may like...
I bought red GTI badges off ebay (usually lower quality than VW supplied ones but I have had no issue with mine).
The red in the middle is some sort of tape which is inserted. If you fancy being a little artistic I'm sure you could pull out that middle taping with tweezers, paint it black and reinsert it with some adhesive. (not sure what the best adhesive would be).
Then you would end up with black and chrome GTI badges on a black GTI?
Just a thought, never seen it done before

My GTi badge is Black and goes very well on a Red car
oh and i like your style PenguinGTI

Thank you steve... I like yours
You wouldn't have any pics which dear Gizzy could use in her consideration?
The only thing is am I not correct in believing that you have the complete letters painted black? By painting the inserts Gizzy would keep the letters black but with a chrome outline (just like the red ones have a chrome outline).

SteveP, Ess_three, have snazzy badges on their GTis.

All coments duly noted and appreciated, will have a look at badges to see if taking red out is possible.
However will need to be another day had a very busy day at the salt mine and need to rest my weary head

Hey Gizzy was wondering how the badges had went?
-
I have done it exactly the way Peng adviced and it worked like a charm....the only minor was getting the remaining glue off ...in the end I used a bit of sticker remover (a non agresive one.....)....I even diluted that to be on the save side.....take your time....

Thanks, I am not sure if I am going to do it now or not.
