Can u smell fuel mate?

i had similer problem and when i cranked mine the ignition lights would go out witch turned out to be the ignition switch also check the main plug by the injector that sometimes breaks good luck

If you have a spark and fuel getting through you cant be going too far wrong.
Check your ignition right through to ensure its getting a good fat spark.

and take the pet pipe off in the enginie bay n make sure its cummin out ok,,,, ull now when it is cos ull think its a fire enginie

I had problem with my 8v.
Would turn over but sometimes started 1st time, sometimes 10th time, sometimes not at all.
Replaced leads, plugs, rotor arm, dizzy cap, ignition barrel and ignition switch.
Didnt solve problem so I took it to local garage.
They traced it to the ECU. One of the components inside had melted!!!!!
Their auto electrician replaced the melty bits and it has started 1st every time since.
If you can get the ECU apart have a look for any burnt/melted bits.
VW also said it could be the Hall sender or the TCIH which is connected to the ECU
Good luck!

Thanks Guys for the replies!!
Still no go checked all plugs ETC there is a spark when turned over and i can smell fuel from the exhaust..
If the ECU is faulty would this cause overfueling?
Before this problem arose it went like a rocket one of the sharpest 8v's i've been in but seemed quite thirsty and the computer was reading 13-15mpg!!!
HELP!!

I do remember my mate having a similar problem. Does the fuel pump whine for about 3 seconds when ignition is on?
If it doesnt then check the relay, if not that then its got to be the ECU
Sometimes the fuel pump doesnt turn off after 3 seconds and this could be a faulty ECU as you can smell fuel.
If it is the Ignition moduel ontop of the ECU then i have loads spare for you?
