Title: Flashy lights after knock sensor change
Post by: nikkyboy on 12 July 2010, 18:22
Hi there,

I've just replaced the knock sensor on my 8v digi.  Its been torqued up to 20nm.  But now when i rev the engine up to 3k the oil warning light flashes and the buzzer sounds.  This continues when I drop back to idle.

The old sensor is fooked, a broken insulation and cracked plastic shielding. The timing doesn't alter when you bash it with a spanner.

I've noticed that the old and new sensors have different part numbers.  Old one says 034 905 377H.  New one says on the box 054 905 377G (genuine vw part).  Is it a case of the wrong part, or the car setup on a broken sensor?

I know this seems a stupid question but on one of the other topics someone said all knock sensors were basically the same, just different length wires.

Quick update to this one. I decided to put the old sensor back on, but now the oil pressure buzzer comes on with this one at 3k+ Nothing else has changed.  Oil level is fine.  What have I pulled out by accident?
