Title: engine mounts
Post by: benmk1 on 03 January 2005, 18:52
hello
just got me my 1st mk2, its an '87 16v 3 door and i found that the engine mounts are on their way out. Now should i replace then with standard vw ones or can you recommend stronger?
can you fit g60, if so are they stronger?
thanks
ben

you can fit g60 mounts i believe as they are essentially just digifants with a charger, they will be more heavy duty due to the extra power they have to cope with.
you can also do a solid front engine mount which helps put the power to the wheels (pm me if you want more info on these, as i know a guy who makes them) and there are also vibratechnics mounts which are strong as well. the choice is yours!

I Would recomend vibra technics mounts as they are very very strong but not solid hence you dont get the engine vibration. I have replaced all 3 with vibra technics mounts now and am very happy with the result.

you want.

late 16v front hydro mount from vwspares
late 16v rear hydro mount from vwspares
solid rubber gearbox mount from EuroCarParts

g60 items are the same as late 16v's apart from the gearbox mount which is completly different

early spec 16v's have a different rear mount than that of the late 16v's but can be retro fitted.
