^^^ Is the noise not something to do with the direct fuel injection...?  :undecided:

Thanks, I will be using the v-power petrol from now on, seems like these engines are make for this type of petrol...
I am on 41k, 07 car, should i get cambelt changed now or wait till next year?

Next year mate, 60k or 4 years. Best of going the whole hog and getting tensioners and water pump done whilst there at it.

Yes. Petrol engines with direct injection (like the TFSI) are louder and more 'diesel like' at tickover. Not sure about the technical reasons behind it.

ticking noise comes from the lifters, and more apparent on the early 05/05.5 vehicles. Normal unless it is VERY loud (to a point you feel something is wrong)

.........correct & that is usually the small cam chain & tensioner, these had gone on mine.

The engine code is BWA, keep running V-power but this is just the noise they make. Unless it's really bad as posted then it could still be the cam chain and tensioner. Ideally the car needs to be on time and distance.

Don't worry about it - mines a 58 plate with 14,000 miles and it sounds like a diesel too, fortunately I can't hear it inside the car !!

I'm not sure how to copy what other people wrote and put it in my post but to the person above if it's only loud on first start could be a oil pump issue as when stood for a period of time it looses pressure for a second until it builds back up when started.... It's a common problem with the normal 2.0 non turbo.

^^ As said in the other thread - that isn't normal.  Yes they do sound quite tappy / a touch rough on idle but not to that extent.  I guess its up to one of the guys who have had the cam CHAIN and tensioner issue to confirm thats the problem but it sounds to me like it is.
