I'm confused, my last Gti 2008 MY had the RCD500 headunit with 10 speakers, My new 2006, 56 plate Gti (not sure what model year) has what I think is the RCD300 but not sure what speakers.
Apart from the pleasant surprise of finding an iPod dock in the armrest (I missed this when I was buying it! Doh.) the stereo sounds so much better than my last Gti!
Why?!
It sounds punchy, bassy and clearer than I remember.
There is a Parrot kit fitted also, I'm wondering if the previous owner maybe had some kind of in-line amp fitted with the parrot..... :undecided:

10 speaker system until 2006 MY so you have the 8 speaker system. The 10 was optional.

When do the model years swap over, August? How do I tell which mine is?
Is there a way of finding out the options fitted at build?
I just had a thought, my 2008 Gti was a 3dr, my new one is a 5dr - I wonder if this makes a difference to the sound?
Cheers. :)

yes changes in july/august, obviously because of our reg system, the car is registered at "first use", so can have any plate. look at the VIN, will have 06 or 07.

Yes it's middle of the year, look under the passenger seat. If it's a 10 speaker system you'll have a VW amp under there. Doubt 5 door and 3 door would make that much of a difference.

i have the same 'problem' in mine
for some odd reason it sounds excellent!

Best problem ever  The only worse one would be 'help, my GTI is too much fun!'

My 05 has the standard head unit/6 cd player with 10 speakers & it's fine for me.

You sure about that? I had the RCD500 with 10 speaker upgrade in my 3dr and there was no VW amp, just mid-range speakers in the doors. I thought the amp was a separate upgrade?
Cheers.
