Title: Springs on and Exhaust Pics
Post by: KennyGTI on 09 July 2010, 22:24
Ordered some Eibach Springs for the Golf, just went for the Sportline over the Pro Kit. 20/25mmm drop instead of the 40mm drop. The ride still feels OEM, not that big a drop i suppose, certainly firms up though when cornering which i think the Golf lacked to be honest.
Anyway some pics of the exhaust fitted too.

Now am looking into a K04 kit for the TSI, guy has fitted one up here but not heard much about it really. AWE in America have a kit for the TSI, not sure if it would fit UK based cars? APR in America are supposedly have a kit in development, asked Awesome if they know anything about today so waiting for a reply from them.

I love the little 'tweaks' to a car. Nothing flash, just really good effective mods, and I really like this.

Kenny did you have to take off the whole grille to remove the VW badge?
In another forum a guy there says he removed his by twisting it to the left but mine doesn't budge!!

JKM are doing some work on a K04 kit for the TSI engine too, so worth keeping an eye on that too

Edit - Here's a link to there project thread - http://www.jkmperformance.co.uk/performance/tsi-skoda-jkm.htm mentions the K04 upgrade but no details as yet.

In another forum a guy there says he removed his by twisting it to the left but mine doesn't budge!!

It twists out mate, anti clockwise and about 45 degrees then carefully pull it out. It has 3 wee lugs that twists into slots on the grill but they can be easy to break so take your time. It will budge, just have some porridge before doing it

They are the same springs as mine and the dropped slightly more than the manufacturers claimed but it sits perfectly.

I was thinking of getting my badge sprayed too but I'm not sure about the white, sorry!

You can make the badge any colour you like, i just wanted it the same as the car.

countrytrucker - did you have any problems with the traction control flashing up and brakes jagging on and off?

I haven't noticed any problems with the traction but there is 1 corner I go round where the brakes seem to lock for a split second. I thought I was imagining it at first! It's an off-camber left hander and I dab the brakes before it goes into a left-right chicane. Just as I dab the brakes, it seems to lock for an instant and it upsets the car. It caught me by surprise a bit the first time it happened and I thought it could have been leaves or something that I had driven over but it was completely dry last night and it happened again.

From reading other forums, a possible answer is, when the springs were fitted the guy said my steering wheel was way out, so got the tracking done and straightened it up, seems you need to set the steering angle sensor back to 0 degrees or the car thinks your going round a 90 degree bend at 50mph where as your only going round a slight bend?

I need VAGCOM!

Funny you should say that. The steering wheel was sitting off-centre when I got the car so they straightened it for me plus did a full alignment check on the car. Possibly the same thing has happened to me. I will get this checked out too.

I like the drop (barely noticeable ) and the pipes, but the home-painted grill badge isn't really to my taste.
