Hi im new here and you probably get this all the time and i may get slated but im looking at buying either a 130 or a 150 on a 2003 plate. What are the pros and cons of each model?
I want the 150 but there is none around that tick all the boxes but as for 130 theres one 5 miles away!
So do i hold out for the 150 as they are alot better or just settle for the 130 as they are just as good?

Also what year 150's suffered from the soft cam issues?
Is there anyway to tell if its got the hardened cams with taking the cam cover off?

go for the 130, get it ramapped and its just as quick as the 150.

untill the turbo goes pop...then the 150 has a 2 week head start :lipsrsealed:
as for the cams you can take the cam cover off and check for any signs of wear to the cam lobe and see if the follower has any pitting. the revised followers are black in colour the old ones are sliver

Long shot but can you see the cams when looking down through the oil cap hole?
I defo want a 150 i think, yes they are close but i dont want to have toremap it just to be as quick as the 150.
Also im finding it hard to navigate around this site, No personal message system? I was trailing around for a few hours on here last night trying to find Stevepd's build thread so i can look at a few pics as i really want a black one but the closest one to me is grey :rolleyes:
So where is the section for build threads as im clearly missing something :sad:

grey is the best and rarest colour :cool:
only take 15 mins to whip the cam cover off. other than that check the service history. also seems to effect 2002 ones more but have seen later models with the cam problem and also lower PD models

and what colour code is it of is it just vw grey?
Hmmm so i should ask about has it had cams done? Also ive got a few people that work in mechanics, is it easy/cheap parts to change them?

Thanks for that steve, the one i was looking at is a true grey. Its slightly green/blue grey.
Wow quite a bit for the job then, might be worth asking the garage to open thecam cover up for me.
Dont suppose youve seen a picture of what i should be looking for with the cover off?

Basically you're looking / feeling for any pitting / marks etc on the cam and the followers themselves

Not experienced enough to just go whipping engine bits off :grin:
Ive done services and uprated inlets on my corsa but then again its a corsa and costs £4.72 to fix :smiley:
So i need to look for clicking, white smoke, turbo noises etc etc or do they just go all of a sudden??

Ok just test driven a gt tdi 130 on 44k and bugger me they are quite nippy!
Very quiet engine ( quieter than my gf's 08 clio 1.5 dci, which wound her up :lol: )
Couldnt hear any clicking just the normal knocking noise deisels make.
Turbo whistle noise is quite loud though.
Nice smooth power.
He wants £5250 which seems fair, its got the climate control which works perfectly.
Anything else i should be looking for?

Had a silver car for too long now and fancy a black one. Yes its hard to keep cleanbut when you do its amazing :)
Already knocked him down from £5990, nearest in mileage is 77k for £4850.
Not much down here on sub 120k tbh :(

sounds good, good to hear its not silver, there as common as horse sh*t with golfs, black is a smart colour, not as cool as indigo blue though :evil: :laugh:

lol, sorry, dont get me wrong, silver is still a nice colour but imo is just way to common these days and espcially with vw's :cry:
