Title: Do all MK5 GTis have Autolights?
Post by: Emeye on 08 July 2010, 14:40
As the title - my last 2008 57 plate 3dr had auto-lights, but I'm not sure the new one I'm buying, a 2006 56 plate 5dr has them.

TBH I didn't really concentrate on the light, but I thought they were std GTi spec?

I used the auto lights on my last GTi all the time and they were great.

Is this the auto light switch?:

I can't remember from my 2008 3dr, I thought it said AUTO on the switch - but this pic is the same as the on in the 5dr GTi I'm buying.

Yes it is. The 12 o'clock position being the auto setting.

From 2008 MY the sign changed from a tunnel symbol to the word 'Auto'. Easiest way to check is for either of these symbols or the rain sensor on the windscreen.

I like them very much.
What I don't like is the lights coming on and staying on when you drive fast.

Tiff was filming an SLS at >150 mph a couple of weeks ago.  On the same public road I go over 90mph on.  All legal.

Fortunately as well as the auto setting, VW equiped the switch with an off, sidelight and full-beam setting.  This enables you to take full control of the vehicles lighting so STFU

Aha! Cheers, that explains things, my last GTi was a 2000 MY.
