Title: Engine Temp Gauge

Hi all, how quickly should the engine temp gauge rise and where should it sit when up to temp? even on a 40min drive + a bit of traffic It's not yet got as far as half way - could it be the thermostat? a temp sensor? and how do I go by eliminating each of them?
