Been a long time since ive owned my own car as ive had sh!te company cars but now ive had to buy one.
didnt have much cash but manged to get myself a tidy mk4 1.8 gti, got a fair fiew miles on the clock but to be fair she is mint!
So what to do first? Car is untouched which is what i like to be honest. Im thinking of a new exhaust system (dont want the car to sound like the titanic) and a possible re map with new rims.
whats reasonable on the market nower days as i havent modded a car since my VTR days?

Remap is a good start, Pipercross panel filter and Forge 007P diverter valve. Speak to R Tech and they'll see you right....

Here we go again :wink:
As said remap and flat panel filter with forged dv is good start. Then some nice wheels, then full turbo back exhaust then some collies then bigger turbo then fmic then stage2 and list goes on :rolleyes:

I would say before you start serious modding get the car running right and sort any known common issues.
My list would be;
Forge 007p (the OEM diverter valves split at the diaphragm) - £80 DIY fitment
Catch can/PCV pipework as you are bound to end up with a boost leak - £100ish for all the parts
Temp sender (they break almost as a routine thing) - £20 IIRC from the dealers
Coilpacks - dependant upon engine code, AUM engine codes are the worst ones for breaking - £20 each IIRC
MAF - very common fault - £80 from the dealers
Then a good service of;
Air filter (uprate to PiperX panel filter or CAI) - £30-£60 depending what you go for
Spark plugs - get something recommended like Bosch super 4's etc - £20ish for a set of 4
Oil & filter - parts from dealers, make sure you get the correct oil, 5w/40 fully synthetic - £40 tops.
What engine code/year is your golf and we'll have more a of a clue where to aim you :wink:
Welcome!

Its a 2ooo plate and the engine code is AGU? I think?
