Hey all was driving home when under 1 mile the car started slowing down and battery light came on :( so i pulled over and poped the bonnet but nothing , no leaks . tryed to turn it over ticks but doesnt start :( unplugged the battery and after a while plugged it in turned it and it started reved to 1000 then turned off.
Ive also noticed that there is ticking noise coming from relay 458
One guy pulled over and said its looks like its the starter motor could he be right?

When my battery died it would make a ticking noise when trying to start it. Dont suppose you have a battery charger do you?
Odd that it died whilst driving though, alternator? Im just thinking out loud here :undecided:

now thats the thing the battery is not dead. ticking coming from fuse box realy a4

Just because it unlocks and the mid / highline comes on etc doesn't mean its not dead. When mine started dieing all these things would work but it wouldn't start then a day later the midline and everything else died.
It doesnt sound like the battery though, might be worth trying to jump start it with leads? Would rule it out at least.

checked the battery and its got the green light on :( the engine turns over but doesnt start while the engine is turning there is ticking noise from the fuse box when i take relay a4 out it stops. like i said engine turns but doesnt start :( could it be a loose wire on starter motor?

Faulty coil ?.

Green light doesnt always mean that the battery is in good condition just the one cell that its connected too is good. Take it down to a garage and get them to load test it. This will eliminate it as a fault.

so it can't be because the relay fuse is fooked? the noise is coming from relay a4 (engine compoment power supply relay)

battery was disconnected all night started it and car started fine i even reved to 4000 revs the whole time i had my foot reving it was working as soon as i stopped it stalled.
got the vag out to find out what it could be and it has 14 faults.
from what i could make out its a short somewhere.
if anyone can help it would be really appreciated

Problem Solved A4 relay was the fault changed and now running like normal :)

So did anyone figure out what this relay controls?

when that relay stopped working vag was reading
