Title: Passat B4 Hubs & Subframe

Picked up a full Passat B4 subframe setup at the weekend for my Mk2 1.8T project.

My question is, do I need to use the Passat hubs or can I use the orignal Mk2 ones?

Also, what is this massive block of metal for that was on the passat sub frame and do I need it?

The massive block of metal is a vibration damper and is not needed.

Got the other question answered as well now....believe all 4stud hubs are the same.

be interesting to see if that subframe will fit, ive heads some say its too wide and some say it fits fine. however even if it does fit it wont give you widetrack, its the wishbones that do that. but if it does fit it means you can use the passat chunky roll bar, wont fit a mk2 type subframe properly as it bends in the wrong spot

Well I can confirm that the passat subframe I have is totally different from the mk2 one.

The rear mounting point has a different shape which meant it wouldnt sit flush up against the body:

and the front mounting point is angled and higher on the passat subframe:

So is a B4 just a facelifted B3 or does it have a lot more differences

its quite similar under the facelift yeah, but there were a few differences. mostly minor things like the plugs on some of the electrics etc. still same fusebox and running gear mostly though. dunno why i asked if it was a B3 or B4 actually, part numbers for the subby are the same anyway!

which begs the question why anyone thought it would be possible to swap over as its obviously completly different. unless they meant the front subframe...

Have to agree with you there....its obvious pretty much instantly that it wont fit.
