I currently cannot get my valver to start. Both myself and a mechanic think that the unit ontop of the airbox (metering head)has failed. Is there any way i can test this? Could i undo the injection pipes then attempt to start the car and see if petrol shoots out? Also if it has failed is it easy to replace or can i strip it down and fix blockages etc. Plus how much should i expect to pay for one?
-
suppose you could pull the injectors out and see if they are squirting  is he talking about the metering head?? i doubt that would fail :undecided: , more likely to be the fuel pump or something like that
-
Yeah the metering head. I dont think its the fuel pump because when i disconect the fuel line and turn the ignition fuel squirts everywhere.
-
well i think the only mechanical bit is the flap that controls the mixture, that could be stiff
-
There must be more than that. How does it know when to squirt fuel and to which injector? Ive checked the flap thing and i can move it a bit. when i pull it down it sounds like a door bell. Ding!
-
it should move fairly freely, it gets moved by the airflow so should be fairly loose. typically ive just thrown away an airbox 'top'.
-
u got spark?
can u hear the fuel pump buzzin when u turn the ignision on
-
if the 'mechanic' didnt check that to start with he shouldnt be a mechanic lol
-
Yeah i got a strong spark to each plug and the buzz of the fuel pump is there but when you turn the key it fires once then nothing just the starter trying its hardest.
As for the flap moving freely it feels kinda spring loaded at the moment and only moves about 1cm
-
are the injector seals ok? fuel lines not leaking anywhere?

It is spring loaded but should move about 5cm's
If you take the induction pipe off the top and grab hold of the bolt on the flap you should be able to move it without too much trouble to about 5cm's up I think
Anyway just realised who you are, the new one i'm sending you should sort this out! or give you some spares at least!
-
Ah its you! I should have guessed really. Well the one thats on at the moment doesent move that far at all. Doesent even look as if it could! The circular plate is too big to move that high up. Maybee its already too high and should be moving down? Will see when your replacement arrives. Cheers.

Sussed it! The circular plate had moved and was jammed. I loosed the bolt, centred it and bingo! Nice to have my dub back.
