Title: Power all over and now traction control light on! I hate my golf!!!!
Post by: Big Tone on 05 July 2010, 06:15
Morning,

driving in to work this morning, gave it a bit to overtake someone.....power all over the place, boost on, then off then on again, felt a bit sluggish, traction control light on and will not go off.

She had a new N75 last week, will scan for codes tonight but has anyone experienced anything like this before?

I am getting real fed up now, just when things seemed to be going right it all goes T*TS up again.

I have noticed over the last two days that I also have a little wobble on the steering at about 50-60mph, don't drive like a plank, haven't gone over any potholes or anything, it has just started!!!! :angry: :angry: :angry: :angry:

traction light on and loss of power usually points to a dead MAF

Lucky I have one at home in the shed then! I will do a scan when I EVENTUALLY finish work!

ive had the traction control light on and it was down to a faulty MAF, had a new one fitted, codes cleared and all is well  :cool:

Just scanned and got codes;

16487 - Mass Air Flow (G70): Signal too high
             P0103- 35-10 - - - Intermittent
and

01314 - Engine Control Module
             013 - Check DTC Memory - Intermittent

Could these both be caused by dodgy MAF, or are they seperate issues?

the 01314 code will have been in the ABS module - that's just the system reporting that the ECU has "borrowed" the esp/mil/check engine light.

Nothing to do with a bad earth strap then, read about these potentially blowing the ECU.

no just clear that one after you clear the maf code and it should stay gone

Here's a question;

How does the MAF affect the boost, cos she was hissing like a banshee when accellerating as well as jerking on the boost

the hissing noise will be the wastegate venting as your maf is reading high so the ecu "dumps" what it thinks is the extra air/boost in the system. I would assume the jerking is a misfire as the maf signal is sending dodgy readings but not quite exceeding the upper limit that triggers the 16487 code

I see, Nice one toph!

not good. fitted new maf and hs still the same. pretty sure all boost hs being vented to wastegate. it sounds like a whirlwind under the bonnet. new n75 new maf. where to next?

did you clear the codes? might be in limp mode

check there isn't a boost hose popped off too because that can sometimes trick the ecu into thinking the maf is dead

I did clear the codes, took her for a spin, same again, less jerky though, more like a smooth hissing/tornado!

Exact same codes came back, but no "17705 - Pressure drop between......." though, just the MAF one!

Will check boost pipes tonight when I am back from work "again" because it does sound like the turbo is producing loads of boost, its just all going to waste.

I will be back.
Title: Re: Power all over and now traction control light on! SORTED!

Well, f*ck me, I have found the problem.

The boost gauge which I fitted at the weekend came with its own length of silicon hose. Which at the time I thought,

"thats a bit soft"

When under vacuum the hose collapses in on itself and kinks over, then when on boost the air to the FPR is cut off/restricted massively. It looked like this thing was alive when revving the engine.

Replaced now with some proper stuff so fingers crossed.

(I say fingers crossed cos i haven't actually taken it out yet :tongue: :tongue: :tongue:)

Ha ha, also noticed a bit of a boost leak on the charge to pancake pipe, going to ditch the cr*p o ring/c clip arrangement and fit a silicon reducer!
