Hi all who read this! Just got myself a fairly decent 16v gti. There are two buttons on the centre instrument panel just under the heat controls and to the right hand side. Onwe says norm and the other says max.
Im at a loss as to what these actually do. The car has no air con and never has as far as i can tell.
Hope someone can shed some light, i have pics but dont know if i can post em yet!

Its to turn the power up and down, press it to the max and it makes your car faster, with it to th max it should redline at 9000rpm and souund like a V -Tec

They are A/C buttons.
If you haven't got A/C perhaps someone has removed it, or just added the switches for effect.

ahh thanks, i had a feeling they were. they seem to be connected to something at the back so it must have done at some point!
thanks for the help!

i aint never seen air con buttons like this, UNLESS these are the buttons found in early cars and not the later cars with flat switches, reason i say this is the early cars have dome button for rear heated window too, what year is the car ?

its a 1996 and doesnt look as if its had air con, no signs in the engine bay, i mean.
weird!

Perhaps Norm is it's name

Mine has 2 buttons there as well, though they dont say norm and max. left one says AC and right one is 2 arrows, like a circulation picture, which I guess could mean max :P If you turn it on the light only comes on to say its active if the AC is also on

I think one operates the bilge pump.
The other activates the additional 8 vales to make it unquestionably better than the 8v gti. There's also a dial there somewhere, turn it fully to the right to insure you have more torque through the whole rev range than the 8v.
