Title: gearknob shaking!!
Post by: shazz290 on 03 July 2010, 13:47
bought a golf 4 months ago which had needed a gearbox soon which was included in the sale.  It doesn't go into gear one without coming to a stop or sometimes doesn't go in at all but for the last couple of days when in gear 5 the gear knob is shaking and sometimes in gear 4 and the car is vibrating at high speeds.  its like i can feel every bump on the road road

is this more symptoms of the gearbox being knackered or something else?

Unless there is a nasty grinding noise with the vibrations its unlikely to be the gearbox internals!  Possibly drive shaft issues but most likely engine mounts or something along those lines.

id go with the box mount, if you check it out and see oil everywhere around it thats a sign that it is dead.
