Title: B*llocks
Post by: jaydubveedub on 03 July 2010, 10:36
Broke my engine cover last night whilst changing the PCV - ARGHH! I've had that engine cover off about 4 times before with no problems, not sure why it decided to break this time.

Luckily I am still able to fit it OK and it doesn't rattle but it will need replacing as I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

Anybody know how much VW are going to rape me for for a new one?

On the plus side, the car starts and runs a bit better with the new PCV on!

Anywhere near you?

IIRC they are surprisingly expensive but I don't know the actual cost.

I broke mine when replaing my PCV as well  Only a small split so i don't really care as it really didnt matter.

Let me guess top left hand corner?

I think for what it is its expensive for a new one - around £150 i've heard.

Amazingly, I broke it whilst putting it back on!

Having removed it a few times before, I had greased all the mounting points to prevent future breakages. I had re-fitted it on the back two studs, and whilst trying to push it down on the front left stud, it snapped underneath where the rubber grommet fits.

Buggar.

Just out of interest, how much is a new PCV and are they easy to fit yourself?

New PCV is about £30 from your dealer, and yes it's a piece of cake to fit - about 15 minutes.

Remove engine cover, unclip 2 hoses from the PCV (on the front of the engine), undo 4 x T25 torx screws and it's off. Then, as they say in Haynes manuals......."replacement is the reverse of removal".

Leave the cover off... Lightened GTI, FTW!
