My lovely little bruv has just taken delivery of a new mk6 GT Stinkpot.
In his heart of hearts he knows that my beautiful mk5 GTI is the car he wants, but being competitive brothers I know that after a couple of malibu's the conversation will get heated.
So....
Help me out here brethren. How do I enlighten him? (all in good humour - of course )
-
I assume you mean why your car is better:
1) It has more power
2) Makes a better noise
3) Looks better (IMO)
4) The car that the Mk6 is based on lol
5) And the badge

Thanks for the reply nr123 - and you are correct, my car is better.
I can't believe this post has had umpteen views but only one response.
-
just keep calling his car "Rudolph" after Herr Diesel!
-
And what are you doing drinking Malibu??? Should be on the single malts up there lol!

Easy way to enlighten him!
Settle it on the dragstrip......

 I don't think you'd last long drinking Malibu up here.
I'm liking the ideas so far. I might have to take him for a trip to Santa Pod.
What car is the Mk6 based on?
-
He has a diesel and you have a 2.0T petrol GTI.
How does he even have a leg to stand on in any argument.

What car is the Mk6 based on?
^^^ Vast quantities of parts of the MK6 chassis/suspension/brakes/etc etc were carried over from the MK5. It's not totally a 'new' car, per se. I like to refer to it as the MK5.5
And no matter what any diesel owner (esp GTD owners!) say, buying a diesel is a compromise, intended to save money. GTI owners do it for the love.
Trust me, I had a 175bhp Grande Punto Sporting MJET before the GTI and I constantly had to explain what it was all the time...
-
GTD drivers do make me laugh.
*Anorak voice* Its like a GTI you see, but its not, its a diesel. Its just as fast as GTI (LMAO ROFL) but I can get 40MPG *anorak voice*
Tossers :D
-
Or.... head into the MK6 section, and find member VWKev.
He'll give you plenty of GTD ammo... ... ... ... ... :lipsrsealed:
-
Whilst your there have a word with Steve30 aswell :D :D :D :D

ROFL
He'll be up next weekend, so I've just spent many spondoolies on some DoDo Juice to make sure its all looking super-slick so he gets that sinking feeling in his heart when he sees my car disappear into the distance.

I do seem to recall that when I took you and 3 other people (5 in the car) I reached a similar speed as your little GTI with a total of 4 people on board. And it got considerably better miles to the gallon in doing so
Just think how fast it will be with a new turbo bolted on

A Golf GTI is a car that you are never ashamed to own. Bought with the heart and never regretted.
A diesel Golf GT is bought after tapping away at a calculator all night. And hated every time it's stuck chugging and rattling in a traffic jam.

A friend once put it like this when drunk...
"
The diesel is like a blow up doll.
The GTI is like a proper woman.
Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs... but which would you rather have
"
Apologies for the rather sexist outlook.

A dolled-up woman. Finger-licking good!

Tip for your brother's upcoming trip... get yourself to your local Revo dealer the day before and get a free 'Trial Map' which will last 5 hours - thats 5 driving hours, not 5 hours from when the software is installed.
The sinking feeling he will get when he sees your car rapidly - and a remap makes a hell of a difference - disappearing into the distance will be priceless.
If you let him have a drive of your GTI with the remap still functioning, I reckon he might even sell his GTD to get a GTI as it really is that potent after a remap.
Game over. :smug:

As a diesel fuel injection system engineer, I er on the side of the diesel.
However,
A GTI is a fun car, which can be owned by those who don't mind the running costs and enjoy the car, despite it's day to day cost.
A GTD is a fun car, which can be owned by those who want economy and performance as a trade off, and not to worry about the day to day cost of it.
Basically - GTI = Fun but expensive
- GTD = Fun but cheap
If you knew the engineering that went in to producing the diesel's then some of the reasoning in this thread might change.
-
Whilst your there have a word with Steve30 aswell :D :D :D :D
Now now whats all this about then??? you trying it on again Al
The GTD is better than a MK5 gti by far!!
come and shoot me down!! :smug:

Each to his own.
I own a diesel vehicle and it's quite good.
What does it matter what other people drive? It's you and you driving pleasure that counts.
