Title: Air Con

Thought my air con needed regassing, so took it to Kwik Fit to put the machine on it and it came back with a leak.

Bit disappointing as the car (06) is just over 4 years old. Have read a few posts regarding faulty compressors and swarf in the system.

Got the car in January and never used the air con in anger so just thought it needed a regas, now the hot weather is here thought I do something about it.

The service schedule shows that it did have an Air Con service at VW in 2008.

Just looking for some advice as to whether to let VW diagnose or go to a specialist?

Take it to VW who did the work and tell them whats happened. If its a known fault they may be more inclined to help  :undecided:

+1 don't trust Kwik Fit if they had the proper kit they would / could tell you where it is leaking.

Try and get it fixed under warranty if you have one. Otherwise it'll probably be a dealer job.

I have just gone through the faulty compressor bollo*ks mate which ain't good. Whilst diagnosing the issue though they told me that there was a particular weak point where the system leaked and on mine it was also leaking, as well as the compressor. The technician said the pressure regulator valve is usually where they leak. Its located on the metal pipe work itself and can be located at the front of the engine bay, about half way down and about half way between the engine and the rear of the headlight. It sort of protrude vertically from the metal pipe about an ince and then has a plastic sensor on the top. Clean around this then run the air con for a day maybe and have a feel around it. If its wet with oil/coolant it could be the issue.
 And as a guide it cost me £75 for a diagnosis at my local dealers.

My compressor on Mk5 knacked as well, local engineer tested system and said compressor failure....swarf in the system... expensive. Also said he couldn't find a reconditioned compressor for a Mk5 --- does anyone know if its the same as a Mk4, cos plenty of those at breakers yards??
Compressor on Mk5 runs all the time, so serious design fault
