Been looking at the VMR wheels on the Niche website, as link below.
http://www.nicheconversions.com/shop/products_page.asp?cat=2&sec=7&sec2=72&man=37
Gorgeous wheels in my opinion...... and well priced. Especially compared to the BBS ones. Has anyone got a set of these wheels? If so what style and size did you go for.
Thanks in advance.

they seem very expensive for what are essentially replica wheels
there is quite a markup compared to what they go for in the states
http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92192 (prices in USD obviously!)

Those VMR V710 look tasty.
-
Will a set of big ass bbs dishes fit the new golf... one of you has to!!
-
im also looking to either get vmr or the bbs ch, but i feel like im leaning towards the bbs purely because im not to keen on reps..although that being said bbs chs with good tyres come at £2000

Careful on widths and offsets, 8.5" rims would be a bit 'sticky outy'
-
Are they not just a copy of the CSL wheels??

ET52 fit perfectly, and as long as you stick to 225 wide tyres, won't rub, even on full lock when lowered.

19 inch. 225/35 19 tyres do not rub at all.
alloy on the wheels is very soft. dropped my socket when changing it from my breaker bar to my torque wrench and it bounced off my knee and onto one of the spokes. chipped the paint and dented the alloy!

225 tyres on 8.5" rims? That'll give a lot of tyre stretch.

VMR are reps and they are sold as other brands also I think Advante is one and Radarwerks is another.

Some peeps have them on golfmk6.com and vortex

I actual fact, they sit fully square...the rim protector is next to useless. I certainly wouldn't rely on it to stop the edge of the rim from getting clunked, but they sit square with the edge of the treadblocks.

Personally, I wouldn't fancy anything wider (tyre wise) as it'll kill the feel, so i'll have to live with little by way of rim protection.

grebow, Thanks for the pic and the wheels really nice on you car.
If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for these and where did you get them from?

I wanted VMR wheels for mine but I had no joy getting an answer from VMR in America.
I ended up going for BBS CH Black Editions.
I had BBS LM replicas on before and they were terrible. The lacquer started to come off after a few weeks and they are so soft.

Yeh I'm put off buying replica's to be honest.
The BBS CH's are my first choice & second choice would be the VMR 710's. Third choice matt black Detroits. If you get a chance can you post a pic of your car with the BBB's Did you go for 19's or 18's and how much did you pay for them if you don't mind me asking?
For 18" BBS CH Black editions I've been quoted £1301.00 for wheels only and £1745.00 with Continental Sport Contact 3 tyres (By Rimstyle).
Crazy money really. I still love my Monza's shadows but fancy a change of boots.
-
I fancy them with winter tyres, I'd still keep the Monza's for summer.
-
The quality is good on the VMRs i havent heard anyone complaining about them. They arent cheap chinese knock offs.

Thats my thoughts behind it.......... a bit of a change and a decent winter wheel (expensive though).
I gave my car a good clean last night and when I step back and see the gleaming Monza's I honestly think always think theres no better wheel. Thats I guess until you kerb one, which in six months I haven't managed yet (God that's a kiss of death).

Yeh from looking at them on the net I can't see anything wrong with them and they aren't exactly cheap to buy.

got them from niche conversions and paid £1,099 for the set.
Not very good customer service from niche though im afraid.
I originally ordered them and paid in full and was told that they would be here the next friday. Got no call on the friday so rang on the next monday, was told that they had missed the shipment and would be on this weeks shipment which would come on friday. Again, no call on friday, rang again monday and was told that they would be here wednesday!! they said they were sorry and they would pick them up and deliver them in person as soon as they landed, i said that if i didnt have them on thursday to cancel my order and refund me my money. No call wed or thurs. Friday mornig they turned up on a courier!!!! Dealing with them was a terrible experience, no contact or customer help at all, i would definitely not deal with them again. Sometimes it makes me wonder how these people stay in business!!

Ummm thanks for the heads up with regard to Niche's delivery / poor customer service. Makes you think twice. I would also make sure I'll pay by credit card for better protection. They've got a good looking website though...
I've been quoted on the 19" BBS ones today at £1469.00 wheels only and £2167.00 with 235/35R19 Continental Sport Contact 3 tyres fitted.
Not cheap... could buy a mk4 for that

The black wheels don't come up well in the photos sadly.
I tried to save money by buying replicas but it was a complete waste of time. I spent the extra money on buying genuine wheels and it is well worth the money. They are 8 inch wide, ET52 so I can put spacers on if I want although I probably won't. I am on country roads a lot of the time too which have plenty of depressions on them so I don't want the wheels sticking out too much and buckling an arch.
The car is lowered on Eibach springs too.
-
I think there is some confoosion in this thread. VMR wheels are not 'reps' in the sense that they are not cheap imports. They may have designs that look a touch BBS but they are 'proper' wheels. However, VMR wheel designs themselves are often available as 'reps' hence you can get for example a set of "BERN 710" for 450 quid, which look mighty similar to VMR 710's! Clear>mud?

sportlines or pro?
also can you remove the stainless steal lip around the wheel? and how hard is it to remove?

nowai, if they aren't oem and fitted with ridiculous adaptors you can't be in the cool club
-
If anyone is near Bury St Edmunds and wants VMRs let me know I can get them for about 1000 pounds shipped.
-
If only I knew this £2000 ago!

I have sportlines just. They were supposed to lower the car 25mm at the front and 20mm at the back (I think). They actually lowered the front 25mm and the back 35mm but it sits great now - the same arch gap front and back.
I am told that the lips can be removed easily enough but I haven't tried yet. Replacements can be bought if they are caught on a kerb on if you want to colour code them.
-
Those silver edges look really fabulous and stylish. Keep them as they are a welcome relief from too much black.
The wheels, as they are, are tops.
I also really like the front and rear mud flaps. Never thought I'd change my mind regarding this. I might go for these on my car too.
Overall effect: Fanatastic. Don't change a thing, except those rear lights to 'R' LEDs.
-
am1w I am surprised at you, all these lovely mods to your car and then you go and mention mud flaps  everything about that car is perfect until you see the flaps which make it totally uncool

Not so. Sometimes it's the things deemed uncool that make it cool/right.
It looks top notch....and the side of his car won't end up peppered with stone chips within the month due to the additional width of wheel sticking out!
How cool is stonechipped flanks?
Ans: Not very cool at all.
Mudflaps - uber cool and practical too.

Yep +1 makes a hell of a diference in keeping the car clean etc etc.
-
Shall have to beg to differ, may look fine on a black or carbon grey car but imo they look s*1t on any other colour. Yeah maybe they do protect the side of the car but that is open to question too.
I don't have them and have been using my car for almost 1 year now and no stonechips

Personally, I think the mudflaps look great on the car. I have seen a few white GTIs without them and they don't look right. I think it makes them look a bit higher without them.
I will definitely be keeping the silver rim on. I considered removing it and painting it white but I'm not going to bother.
I REALLY want LED rear lights but I simply don't have the funds. The only other things I would do to the car would be LED rears and put a slight tint on the front windows (for show purposes only of course )
-
The mudflaps look good to me on a against a candy white car. I think its the black and white contrast thing going on.
Paint a black go faster stripe down the side and it will nearly be as quick as a GTI :smug:

Once I get the Revo map on, it will be as quick as a GTI in a straight line.
Most GTI drivers that I have been on the road with are great until they reach a corner, then the GTD is gone!

I agree. Saw a red one like mine with front and rear MFs and it did look lower and meaner IMO.
I am scared to put them on as this would infuriate Gizzy!

...and your wheels appear to be standard, according to your sig.
So unlike the OP and I, whose wheels are significantly wider, and thus stick out more...the mudflaps make a huge difference.
I still have the occasional stonechip despite mudflaps...I'd hate to see the state if I didn't have them.
