My mate turned up today in his new GTD, candy white and he's had the wheels powder coated black, it looked fantastic! I took it for a drive and it was awesome. Really, really impressive car and he's a rep so it's perfect for his excessive milage.
And then I drove my MK6 this evening and realised the massive performance difference between the two cars and anyone who thinks that the GTD is anything like a GTI needs to go and have a quiet word with themselves in the corner.
If I was a high miler i'd get a GTD but as a drivers performance car, there is no comparison with the GTI.

Sorry Gos, but your full of it. The GTD IS faster, is more desirable and is a better car. Haven't you learnt a thing from your time here ?

Don't let them fool ya Kev!

Good review, I'm doing 700 miles a week in mine and its a proper pleasure, every day.
ACC and Dynaudio make it. The third best thing is the USB socket, I'm finding myself listening to a lot more decent music instead of the radio and thats got to be good....

Yep, best golf that isn't a GTI or an R, the sensible choice for someone who needs the practicality of a diesel but still wants a sporty little number!
-
But Gossa am i not correct in thinking you have a little extra power in your GTI? does that not make it a bit unfair?
-
Gossa the GTD is a top motor ESP with dsg, it's an excellent package!! I have said it many times on here ! I'm In Bangkok right now and it's roasting enjoy steve

yes indeed i do carry a few extra bags of 'oomph' but factored that in. My point is, the GTD is a great great car for those people that want a sporty diesel but it isn't a GTI.
-
I've never driven a MK6 GTD. However comparing my GTI to my previous car which was a MK5 170 DSG then yes I would agree with you Gossa that the GTI has more performance and also road presence.
I must admit I do miss the extra millage I used to get out of my GT. It was a great car and I certainly would never be put off buying a diesel again.
Lets be fair though, the GTI's and GTD's are both fantastic cars...... Its as simple as that really......
p.s. Gossa, get a pic of your mates black powder coated alloys. It would be interesting to see what they look like.

Ive driven both a GTD and a GTI and i cant understand why people are going on about it being just as quick etc etc.
IMHO it's not.

It's laughably no-where near as quick. But then again, I've only seen GTD owners telling themselves it is. Infact, they say its faster.

The GTD seems to me a fantastic alternative if you do not have the budget for a GTI and driving it
You only have to do a few (small= as in debatable) concessions like speed and looks....

there's nothing debatable at all in terms of speed difference between both models. they are not even close. not even in the same vacinity

Kev for us it is not debatable....but for some it is worth quite a few pages....

Don't get me started , trying to stay out of this thread!

From a GTI perspective, I wouldn't mind doing a car swap for a week to see what all the fuss is about :smug:
-
The GTD is only £500 cheaper than a GTI.That's why I am willing to pay a bit extra to get the real deal. Unless the faked Rolex is a lot cheaper!

Price means nothing, I could get an almost new Focus RS for roughly the same price with a big oh haggling and that would horse both GTD and GTI's.

Diesels are faster in reverse
