Title: Noob question
Post by: squirrelGTi on 30 June 2010, 13:38
I'm so sorry if this is common knowledge.

My Mrs has a MK5 GT with the coming home / leaving home lights setup. I might be wrong, but i seem to recall that this was programmed in when we got it.

With my GTi, when i open the lights come on, as expected. But when i lock her the lights don't stay on. I've looked in the computer and it says, coming home 10 seconds and leaving 10 seconds. Is there something else i need to activate?

When the lights are in Auto mode - Should the lights stay on when i take the key out?

When parking her in the garage it's handy having the lights on so i don't bang the door on the wall. At the moment i'm resorting to pressing the open button on the key fob, just so i can see when getting out.

You need to flash your high beam before you get out.

Tis true, thats one of the tiny annoying differences between the 5 and 6, where as the 5 lights used to stay on automatically you have to do it manually in the 6, stupid really.

^^Some people use to complain on the Mk5 that they couldn't de-activate it. That's probably why it's different on the Mk6

On the 5 to deactivate it you turned the light switch to the off position.  Try using the 6 in the on position instead of Auto it maybe work.

Should have got the leccy mirrors as the puddle lights light the wall up and floor.

You have to manually flash the lights for it to work.

A vast improvement if you ask me.
Was fed up with a previous car of folk saying "Hey mate you've left your lights on"

I can't remember now but could you not turn the feature off on the mk5? Seems like a lifetime ago when i traded mine even though it's only a couple of months!
Would be nice to have the option on the mk6.

I fail to see how a module that activates on ignition off, is any more expensive than one that activates on a pulse from the left stalk.
Does a digital bit cost money nowadays?
