Title: Leaky Windscreen repair
Post by: SoundillusioN on 29 June 2010, 23:29
right so i'm getting down to the sh**y jobs now... the old girl has a couple of rust bubbles on the shell at the bottom of the screen (just above the fusebox as always) , if it wasnt covered up in that area it would still be leaking.  I have rewired the car now so dont want it to leak again.  after a bit of an inspection it feels a bit crunchy just under the rubber too.  i think the total affected area is about an inch... anybody got any tips on how to reapir this, obviously the screem will need to come out and i'm guessing i'll need a new rubber even though it appears to be fine!?

Yep you will need a new rubber.
thought as much, not cheap either!... i know you can get (with difficulty) replacement scuttle panels but surly this is OTT for the amount of metal thats affected?

your best bet is to cut a section out of a scrap shell

Good luck. I think you'll have difficulty finding a Mk1 shell and even more unlikely that it won't have rusted in the same area.
Hope you prove me wrong
