let me first start by saying this car is still on its original factory paint, never had any work and is all totally as VW made it unlike many other mk3's which have seen paint in their life or more importantly recent life
this is a super solid car, Zero rust but the paint had LOTS of swirls which have been buggin me
Soooo
into our bodyshopn it goes for a machine polish
for the bodywork weapons upsed was G3 compound, not sure if it was 3M brand? any how rest of products used after this were my own as i prefere these brands
used the chemical guys swirl remover/polish all in 1, after the G3 which was doen a few times using different mops, i did not do this part so i dunno whatr they were, but we used the swirl remover after all the machine work, this was done by hand, 2 coats.. really like this product on this paint
After this we did 2 coats of Jetseal 109, agsan by hand
then 2 x coats of Dodo Juice Purple Haze, a 3rd coat will be applied next weekend
all balck palstics were treated with AG bumper care

After this point i was too busy and far too filthy to be taking pics on my new iPhone 4 (mucky hands - new phone = NO)
after all the G3 polish and sealing was done and the Wax, i brought the car home to apply the gel to my tyres and the AG gel to the bumpers,
(we can already see the shine on the paint)

to do a decent job you need to spend a decent amount of time on the car... which is why when people say 'I can get it buffed for £50' I let them get on with it... as there is no way that anyone could make a living from spending a day on a car for £50

and a £50 job will be cheap and nasty, peoples faces drop when i quote them for correction work but they dont have a clue whats involved and how long it takes to do this kind of thing to a very high standard.

What did you use to get the barnacles off?
Nick

Guy, you would get on with my mate sooo well, this is exactly what he was saying, when people ask the price for this job doing they usually cannot get why a machine polish is the price it is, but when it takes a full day to do the full job i now see why, not only that but also then you have the products used, obviously he didnt charge me as he is one of my best mates, but i did use some of my own productd and i did help out, i gave my mate 70 quid as he did a fantastic job and im not taking the p1ss out of my mates by letting him do it for free (tried to give him 100 but he would not have it) i think he usually charges betwen £120 and £150, or for £200 he has a package which basically includeds the inside, outside, engine bla bla (not exactly sure but he says its like a valet which would be like a "show ready" sort of thing
he also says he has seen mates in the past who have gone out and bought a rotary etc and then hand out leaflets.. then ruin peoples paint work!!
Its the sort of job should be left to those who know what they are doing, and Guy if you had been local to leeds i would have most certainly given you some suport and had you come work on the car
Nick they came off quite easily with the G3, key is to keep up with them

looks good. Engine bay looks like it's missing half an engine though.

Kells mate, you used AG Bumper care? how did you get your black plastic bits so black? as i used the same and within 2wks its gone grey again  i applied it with a wax applying pad and used a microfibre cloth to clean it of. cheers mate
-
very nice. Can you come and do mine ;-)
-
I did use AG bumper gel on the black plastics. The way I do it is apply with applicator sponge leave to soak for a while then buff and i do it every two weeks they never go gray
Now iv built up the layers.
Between aplying I just buff and it brings them
Up shiny as hell again. It's all down to
Building up layers I guess
Tried a few other products but so far this is best for me.
-
Very nice looking Mk3 you have there mate.

thanks man
the Front fog/indicator set up is a genuine Smoked HELLA OEM item which is found on the Anniversary models, they are very expensive tho at around 95 each for the fogs alone, works out about 250 quid or something ! had to have them tho to fit with my all back theme (apart from wheels of course)
think you can get replicas of these tho from euro wagons ??
-
Car looks stunning mate as everyone has said, and must agree one of if not the nicest looking car on here
-
aww thanks a lot. Nice to hear these positive comments
