Just out of interest, does any one know much about the VR6 Auto gearboxes?
Are they electronic or mechanical? AKA does it plug into an ECU of some sort? Only as im going for a VR6 conversion most likely, I would like to make this an auto, however if its lots of playing about with extra wiring i will stick with the O2A box.
Also.. having never driven a golf auto, are they smooth boxes or jumpy?
Cheers.

It will be ecu controlled and plug and play some differences in the wiring but easy enough to sort.

Ah so doing a full engine conversion it will just the same then, cooool!
I miss my auto accord but i really dont know if i want to do it or not, i mean a VR6 is a fun engine, do i really want to make it an auto? Hmmm
Tricky one.

That is a fair point! VR will be a bit of a shock to the system as it is! I cant rule it out totally yet but to be fair my car is no gentle cruiser, its a MK3 on coilies i think a manual would suit better.
Am i also correct in thinking only the Highline was made as an auto therefore having air con and all the luxuries? In which case would be better to just buy one ?

Nope you could get standard VR6 autos as well.

Ah rite, well looking at the price of them its just not worth it, most of them are clean them selfs with climatronic etc.. so would be pointless using one as a doner!
Still tempted by a 1.8t engine but its a lot of money compared to a VR6, and i really dont know if my current MK3 is worth spending thousands on, Still probly end up with just a 16v swap knowing me, seems there are more VRs for sale than valvers are the moment, a sign.... surly

hi , ive just bought an auto vr6, its great, you just put your foot down and it goes through the gears and pulls HARD. i didnt think its that bad on fuel but thats just my opinion. ive had 3 mk 3 gti 16vs and well wait and see whether i can afford to run it. lol about the box itself...it has 2 modes, economy and sport. this is automatic dependant on your driving style. look out for jerks from p into d and n into d. mine does this and i think its a new torque converter needed. hope this helps

Theres a lot more wiring for the auto lump, so it wont be that easy to fit unfortunately. if you really want to add it i might have the wiring you need spare as i made an auto loom manual on one of the MK2 engine conversion looms I did a while ago. I make no promises though as it was ages ago and i have wiring literally everywhere
