I'm sure when I unlock my car then when I open the drivers door I hear the fuel pump prime  sounds exactly the same.
anyone had this before ?
A little while back the car locked itself with my key in the ignition ( not turned on ) and somebody said check the door because if it is opened it shouldnt lock itself but the interior light comes on when I open the door as does the paddle light.
If i close the door and open it again the fuel pump doesn't prime again. More annoying than anything at the moment.
Any tips appreceiated I am useless with electrics.
Mk4 Golf Gti btw

Ok just done a google and found out this is normal . Should have checked there first.
-
I would think that is not normal, the fuel pump should prime when you put the key in.
-
No? i didnt think it was normal but according to
http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/246750/1659123.aspx
and
http://volkswagenownersclub.com/vw/showthread.php/11851-Sound-when-I-open-driver-s-door?p=167251&viewfull=1
and a few other places it is.
Apparantly to aid with cold starting?

Oh it does prime when I turn the key as well which is why I was sure it was the pump priming.
-
yeah its normal on mk4s dont worry about it

I stand corrected then, how odd.

+1 didnt think any cars would do that... didnt think it was necessary!

I have heard of this before, Seems like a waste of motor running time if you ask me, im sure they have their reasons for it though.
-
Well at least I'm not the only one who found it a little odd

im guessing its for something else on the fuel pump relay circuit, rather than the pump itself.
