Remapping + not telling insurance = VOID INSURANCE which means should you be involved in an accident you are screwed

Can't afford the insurance then don't modify

You can't really get anything more from the 1.6 engine anyway. Maybe 3-5 horses more but nothing noticeable.

noo its the 2006 2.0 tdi. i would happily pay £2000 insurance but the cheapest i could get was £3700 on a 1L polo 10 years old piece of sh!t, then as soon as my dads a main driver he drives it 30% i drive it 70% and the insurance know this and said its fine and i now pay £1100 a year. i fail to understand how a car that does 120mph is cheaper to insure than a car that does about 60mph? even my dad says as a 17yr old i have testosterone in my body i need to take it out somewhere and would rather me go on a track and rag the balls out of it rather than on public roads, i cant do a track day as i have to be 18 on most but theres some roads up the moors with nice turns and can clearly see the road ahead i'm 17 but i'm not a chav :) btw i live in a nice area and have nothing bad against my record so the insurance system is just crazy.

Ah, sorry about that. Still though, something that boost performance as much as a remap needs to be delcared otherwise you're running a big risk. 105 bhp is plenty anyway since you have, what, 250 NM of torque?
-
hmm spose its the torque aswell isnt it i never really 'used torque' when thinkin about cars il look it up so i under stand how it relates to performance. well my bro was getting a vectra and he said he could get a box that plugs in the obdII socket and simply unplugged :S ? like a box 5x5x5cm ?

You either have the 1.9 TDI 105 bhp engine or the 2.0 TDI 140 engine or if you're a really lucky boy a 170. There is no 2.0 TDI 105.

can i just ask, and feel free to shoot me down, but how can the insurance comapnies find out about a remap on a car?? can they see the map if the plug into the port or would they have to put it on a rolling road??
tom :)

Plugging in I think. Unless they look for it specifically, even a VW dealer won't pick it up.
Obviously if the car's in an accident, one of the first things they will check is is the car up to scratch (ie up to MOT standard) and was it modified in any way?
If you lie to the insurers and then get found out, no insurance company will ever want to touch you and at 17, that means potentially up to five years (I think) of no insurance.
Stick with the car. 138bhp is more than I had on my first car (74bhp).

I've seen several tales of caution about chipping/tuning without teling the insurers.
The TUNIT module is an add-on box that plugs between the ECU and the engine and modifies the signal the engine recieves to effectively "tune" it.

Also there is the Superchips Bluefin module.

its the 1.9 then i'll see how much they put me up by for adding a chip, for economical purposes obviously
thanks guys

Tunit are one of the better tuning boxes on the market, but like tuning boxes they only kid theecu to put more fuel into the engine, they are safe to us and work well the only down fall is added soot and smoke which can cause sticky VNT,but saying that even stock mapped PDs suffer from sticky vnt. Tunit tuning boxes cost more than a remap but you can use them on your next car or sell it on and get your money back, We can supply and install the tunit tuning boxes if needed.
The best solution is a full software remap which allows the fuel to progress linear and the boost the make a cleaner burn, plus a well remapped car will suffer less from vnt issues. Our spec1 remap takes the 105 TDI to 145bhp/245lbft with a really strong broad linear torque band which will transform the car 100% back to back with a tuning box the remap is night and day, much better quality.
Buy next months copy of Golf Plus and you can get a full rolling road remap with diagnostics for £235 from the normal rrp£285. or £275 allinc for the mobile remap service to your or work address, or a free trail remap if you pop to us.
