Just a quick question, is the ABS light supposed to come on when you turn your ignition on? If it?s supposed to; mine doesn?t, what could be the problem?
The car is a M plate MK3 Golf Gti.
By the way, when I discovered the light didn?t come on, I went to a nice quite road and stamped on the brakes and I came to a stop without any judder (No ABS??)
Cheers

Yeah, when i stamped on the brakes, the wheels did lock up. i've been told the ABS light can go as well!

Silly question but how do you know if the ABS relays are working or not??
Do you think your mates at GSF sell them???
Its really doing my head in, want to get it fixed before winter, might need it.
cheers

The relays are quite cheap so worth replacing before looking at other bits which are gonna be a lot more expensive. I think if the light and the ABS go at the same time its likely to be a relay.
-
Buy the relays from VW, GSF will probably get some out of the bin and sell them to you.
-
okay so GSF are out the question, is this going to be a main dealer buy only??
-
The diagnostic machine should be able to look at the ABS ECU as well BTW

I know you have probably checked but is the ABS light connected. ABS problems are fairly common and can be expensive. Certain unscrupulous owners often unplug light when selling rather then getting prob fixed. It is easy as the panel on dash just pulls off. I know I had same prob. When i reattached it the light stayed on all the time and turned out to be a faulty sensor at the back which luckily was cheap and easy to replace.

I brought a No.79 Relay for the ABS from VW, cost me a tenna, tried to fit it, but its a arse to get the old relay out.
MR VR6, do you have any tips for getting the old relay..

I think you probably will have to remove the trim surrounding it. Let us know if it works.
-
Managed to fit it, there are to hook type clips either side of the fuse panel, flick them up and the panel comes down.
However, still not relsoved the problem, light still does not come on, and the diagnostic didn't pick anything up?
any more clue's??

Some one removed the bulb to hide a fault perhaps ::) ?. Dash out would be my next move.

Could be...........its not the first time its been mentioned:-

There should be 2 lights , air bag and abs to the right of the steering wheel. The small panel these lights are on simply unclips, make sure it is plugged in.
