Title: Paint code for Edition 30 BBS Pescara alloys
Post by: hotrod on 20 June 2010, 20:04
Hi guys,

Re: Colour code for Edition 30 BBS Pescara alloys

I’ve just scuffed my alloy and I’m pi55ed off!

I know this has been asked many times before, but did we ever get a definitive answer on the BBS paint code?

I’ve checked back through the threads and VW Titan Grey Metallic comes close, Wurth paint is mentioned and yesterday my dealer quoted 8Z8.

My local paint shop can mix any colour, if he’s got the code, but he looked at my wheel colour and wasn’t happy about getting an exact match. I believe in Germany there’s a service to get your alloys refurbed by BBS but not in the UK. It seems it’s a closely guarded secret.

I’m based in Bournemouth and have heard good things about Ooops and Alloy Magic Ltd... has anyone used them... good or bad?

Any info would be appreciated.

Regards... Hotrod (Steve)

Don't know your code mate but Alloy Magic are supposed to be good (in in Poole).  I don't think Oops do them on site so I would steer clear.

Bump could be worth a look, that's Poole Audis bodyshop up Tower Park way but won't be cheap methinks!  I know a fantastic bodyshop in Poole that did the wheels on my van, P&S bodyworks opposite Poole football ground behind Gear Box on Stanley Green Rd, do a very good paint job there.

Cheers Gossa,

I’ve used Poole Audi’s bodyshop a number of times with mixed results, however they got there in the end.

Thanks for the ‘Heads Up’ on the others. I’ll check them out.

I bought a tin from wheelpaints.co.uk and it's nowhere near the OEM colour, complained but they blamed the wheel sprayer - stay clear of them and get a paint specialist to match it by hand.

Hi TagnuT,

Very helpful buddy, have you found the holy grail of Pescara paint?
I’ll let my paintshop have a look.

Pisses me off that VW don't have a touch up for Pescara alloys ''over the counter'' . Come on VW.

When mine got damaged they sprayed the "lip" with it and the match was perfect. They had got some of this paint in, to touch up some similar Audi A3 alloys.

You won't notice if it's just the lip or if you do both wheels on the same side.

I have repaired hundreds of wheels and can say with absolute confidence that used correctly, the paint from these guys is A1.

Hi TagNut... my chosen paint shop is going to sort my wheel within the next 2-weeks... fingers crossed. ps It’s only the lip, thank goodness.

As an aside the Michelin Pilot Sport 3’s, I’ve just put on, are ace. Slightly more damped than the Cont 2’s, quieter, great grip, no wheelspin with firm acceleration and a reasonable rim protector... not cheap though.

Cheers... Hotrod

Fingers crossed for you mate.

What did you have fitted before the Michelin Pilot Sport 3’s?
I have Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics on at the moment, which are coming to the end of their life and are getting a little noisy.
I was hoping the Michelin PS 3's were going to be in the latest EVO tyre test but they weren't. Until now I have had Michelins on my cars for years until the F1 Asymmetrics. The F1s have been great in the wet and dry, better then the Conti Sport 2s that the car came with.  However you could really feel the difference in performance when the outside temp was below 6-7 Degs.

Hi TagNut,

I had Continental Sport Contact 2’s which came as standard. By 16,600 miles they were shagged and very noisy. Never really thought that much about them... just bedded in the Michelins  after 300 miles (no rain yet) and they seem very compliant.

Happy so far... Hotrod

Guys,  just how grey were the Pescaras when new?,  I have 4 wheels for a customer to refurb this week, so have a slight latitude in the shading, as all 4 are being fully refaced.

I have sprayed out a test wheel in VWLB7U, but do not have much to work on against the orginal shade.
this has come up a nice grey, the formulation allows for a fine metalflake in it. I can tint it down if needed.

The current wheels have really dulled off and look very flat and murky, so not giving me much to work with.

Finally got a tint both the customer and myself were happy with...hard to show in a picture, but looks pretty close and the main thing is the customer is very pleased, they are lit up by the flash, but as he had all 4 refurbed I had some slight room for colour match, all in durable 2 pack!

Looks good  . Is 2 pack harder wearing than the original paint finish?

Should be the same IMO, but having read so many comments about dull wheels, I feel that the original finish is like an effect paint, which as stated on your other link is very watery and almost translucent, and goes over a black basecoat, that maybe where the fade comes in. but in stating that these wheels had a grey primer not black,  and were very dull, which leads me to the lacquer treatment.

On the wheels I repaired there was nothing wrong with the original lacquer, but having searched for another ED30 for some weeks to get a colour idea, the wheels were very dull.

The system I use, is identical to the bodywork finish, ie primer, waterbase paint and hard clearcoat, so I do not expect any fade....the only thing I do not guarantee against is kerbing damage!
