Title: EGR removal **Now with pics** :)
Post by: mowlamb on 20 June 2010, 15:38
I'm in the process of removing my egr and putting in the delete kit. The only problem at the moment is that I can't get to the 2 bolts holding it to the manifold. How is the best way to get to these? Also can I drive my car with my egr like this as I might need to get it somewhere to get to these bolts?

un-clip/un-bolt everything of the old egr, remove this from the inlet manifold and leave the flexi-metal pipe from the turbo/manifold! then get a small spanner on the two bolts that come from the turbo/manifold best trying from the air box side removing the plastic tubing that goes to your turbo intake pipe, once get that metal flexi pipe off put the wee gasket and cover plate on! also wd-40 them before you do it and i got more purchase from that side off the bay mate! they are quite stiff so do try hard mate.

Does the EGR just pull out of the flexi metal pipe? I tried pulling it but it didn't seem to budge.

Nah mum and dad had to go to me nan's for lunch so he couldn't give me a hand. I decided to attempt the egr instead. I took the lid off the brake fluid to help get to the bolts on the egr. Now the brake pedal is stiff. How can I sort that out?

you want a hard brake peadl  :lipsrsealed: and sponge pedal means air in the system

This is the result of my hard work

Also sorted my new coolant tank :afro:

just a quick question on the Allard EGR delete, should the jubilee be that close to the edge of the pipe? As I tighten it it seems to slip further up the pipe the more I tighten.

Is it the angle of the photos or is the 90 degree elbow at a funny angle?  :undecided:  It looks like it points down towards the EGR delete?  :undecided:

It will settle into a natural position - as long as it stays on, thats the important bit!

You driven it yet?

It does look like it's at a funny angle don't it. Think I'll loosen it all again and have a play, see if i can get it sitting better. Yeah went for a quick drive early but not tested it properly yet

That's why I mentioned it  :undecided:

I'd suggest giving it the full beans in case you need to head off somewhere like work.  I left it about a day before I test drove mine which left me in a panic as the pipe kept blowing off and it was 6pm on Sunday evening

I'd say that elbow needs some trimming off it at the delete pipe end to get it sitting right... the delete pipe is probably a bit bigger than the housing you've taken off

Could do, I'm gunna go and have a little play with it in a mo and see what needs to be done.

Looks like that 90deg pipe needs to be pushed further in toward the delete.

Was your egr clogged up at all??

Right loosened the jubille clip and wiggled the pipe and I straightened it up and got it on a bit further. Then took a trip to my private run way and did 3 runs taking 2nd and 3rd gear to 4k revs and all was fine. Almost got to 4k revs in 4th but started to run out of runway (it's only a little airfield  )

Engine felt a lot more solid and the mpg figures hardly moved where as before the figures were all over the place.

I'm loving the new coolant bottle too! Just need to tidy the rest of the engine bay up as well now. Should hopefully be able to do my gloss black roof and interior trim on wednesday so the car should look a little better soon.

After loosening the jubilee I managed to get the pipe on further and now it looks better.

Both!

EGR gets clogged up with deposits etc etc which in turn restricts the airflow around the charge system.  By removing it you remove this problem

And before you ask, you don't have an EGR to remove
