I orderd a Strut brace kit, Three piece that will "FIT ANY MK2 GOLF" on october. I canceled the order after 2 weeks, But they never credited the card. I sent 3 E-mails and rang twice untill last week they pick up and tell me that the strut braces have arived (3 months late) and where dispatched earlier that morning.
I dont mind this, there ?70 and i still wanted them, if there on the way then thats all good. So thismorning they arive.
The rear strut brace connects to the chassie using just one bolt each side!!!, considering the rear has the most amount of bodyflex i would love to know how one bolt is going to hold it in place.
The under-car one seems fine, but ive not tried to fit it.
The bonnit strut brace kit, Now this is whats really pissed me off. It has a kink that lets the brace go AROUND the top of the block (where the carb is), Which would be great, IF I WAS DRIVING A f**kING LEFT HAND CAR!!!!! instead the kink goes around a f**king empty space withing nothing in it but the gear box a good foot below, and ends up comming smack down ontop of the engine. So bad it makes fitting impossible. theres about 2 inches between one of the mounts and the chassie its self.
Im so f**ked off right now i could break something. How the f**k can big boys toys justifie making some one wait three f**king months for parts THEY KNOW wont fit a UK market Mk2 golf?

sorry to hear about this balls up buddy but i did warn you....................
in a post ages ago you was having grief with Big Boys and i said get ur money back quick cos i got the same kit from Venom and it was a bag of sh!t as well.
If you check the FK site the picture for the strut brace shows it fitted to a left hand drive diesel mk2.
why people are still selling these i just dont know

Took em down my mates hose. Looks like where gonna be welding additional bumps onto the top of the strut tower
-
Why don't you just send em back & get proper ones! If they have sold the wrong product to do the job, by law they have to give you your money back! If you start welding stuff you're gonna f**k the job up!

Why does your mate live in a hose? Is he very tall & thin?
-
just send evary thing back mate n get ya money back n get sum that r pukka, or cget sum cusom made 1's sumtimes there cheeper than offthe self
-
id send them back also.
just get the OMP upper front & rear from www.strutbracer.co.uk or ebay for ?70 all in
a front lower strut brace on a mk2 is pointless. the subframe does the job its meant to do
front lower is only useful on mk1 & scirocco's

I really beg to differ mate. I fitted the lower front strut brace today. and it makes one hell of a difference!!! the car handles like a dream. It says in my Haynes Max Manual that the lower front one is the best one to add as it makes the most difference. You can really feel the vibrations more, But ive gotta say im chuffed with it. In order to fit the rear one im gonna have to have the 2nd silencer taken out of my exhaust. Thats not a problem with the brace, its just how my exhaust is, So im having that taken out after new year.
Still not sure what to do about the upper front brace, might E-bay it and take one from that link you just did.

just means your wishbone bushes are knackered
-
the rear brace just goes between the rear turrets in the boot??
-
No, this is a lower one. Goes between the rear subframe.
-
never heard or seen one of them before
-
What does it fix too underneath??? Post some pics of it :undecided:
-
Theres pics in the garage section, Under "anti-roll bars" on page 3 :)
-
There ain't no pics of the rear one!
-
Opps, Sorry, I put a pic of the rear one On a different site. Heres this pic below, The rear brace is the bar at the top of the photo. Ive not fitted it yet as its gonna cost so much. But when it is on ill take a photo. If you fancy a crawl under your car it sits between two bolts facing forward, The bolts are AFTER the rear wheels. I cant get under my car to take a pic, its too low, But when it gets fitted ill Put up pics.

On a side note, got the front upper brace on today. Could only put in 3 of the 4 bolts because of the height issued. However i have Orderd a K&N replacement filter that will replace the airbox and allow the brace to sit properly, However the replacement filter does not allow for a hot air feed so its gonna have to waight untill spring before it goes on.
-
i was always under the impression that that rear one just bolts onto the top of the rear shocks in the boot
-
Have to say, thats what i thought too :undecided:
-
i would have thought it would make more difference at the top :undecided:
-
Na there seporate, one for the top and one for the bottom. This ones defintally for the bottom. After pay day on the 31st im gonna order a upper rear one as well. I took it down to a Garage and they lined it up and said it was defintally a rear one. The front one would need the rings to get proper support.
-
sorry for the quality of these piccies. there out of me haynes book?

Is this how you have fitted the front brace?
is this how you are fitting the rear brace? this a view of a carb golf. as you can see there is no fuel pump.
this is the rear brace on a gti. as you can see the fuel pump (A) is in the way.
i would agree that my first thought would be that the rear brace should go on top of the suspension towers top stop body flex and twist.
have you got any info you can share on fitting the brace under the car?
this has left me a little confused?

From what i saw it was the same as the front brace. Unfortunatally i cant really show you untill i fit it next month. all i can suggest is get under your car at the side, infront of the rear wheels, and look behind, you will see two bolts. These bolts effect the tracking of the car. The bar bolts between these two bolts. Same for the front.
