Time to refurbish my BBS VR6 alloys. They have VERY heavy curbing and A LOT of lacquer/paint flaking as shown on the pictures.
Some of the curbing goes around half of the wheel
So what I want to know is how to repair it. I want to repaint them in silver but before I do I want to sort out the curbing and even it out/ bring it back to new. This guide is pretty good, but if it's for small/light curbing, nothing on the level I've got

So what would you guys recommend? I shall do a few heavy coats of primer to build up the layers and have a good base and a few coats of paint and lacquer too. Would you recommend buying a fine putty like in the guide and just doing my best to make the lip or just sand it down and leave it curbed?

Get em done by a pro. By the time you've bought all the materials had the tyres taken off and put back on etc you might as well have spent £35 per rim and got them done properly.

Totally agree, its what i done as its just not worth it.

Thing is, the tyres on them are all shot. What I'm going to do is buy 2 new tyres, then get the 2 rear toyos on the old rims which are in great condition and stick them on, so I have a full set with lots of tread. All I'm paying the tyre company is for 2 new tyres and fitting of all 4 (remove 2 from old rims and put in new rims) so It's not going to be that expensive. I want to do it myself as I can get spray paint and primer real cheap so materials won't cost that much for all 4 wheels, and I've got time to work on them.

The only way to repair that rim is to have it built up with weld and ground back as required.
Also to be honest they need shotblasting
-
Ah, so lots and lots of work then. Yeah I am looking at shot blasting them but I need to know a price, need to ring up. How much would I expect to pay for shot blasting 4 wheels?

You do ask far to many questions and you're bloomin lazy. You're as bad as my Mrs. She wants her mini bumpers done and was asking me about powder coaters in Basingstoke.

I know where to look silly! I just want to get an average of cost so I don't get ripped off! Nowadays it looks like companies are trying their best to rob people!
-
Well here's a shocking suggestion, how about looking up a few and ringing around asking for prices and getting them to beat each other? You know like people did with car insurance and telly's before that fat opera wayne kerr or that annoying meerkat appeard on the telly.

£20 each.
It's cheaper to buy a shot blasting kit and doing it yourself!

Yes but it is not really a diy thing, your better leaving it to the pros.
