ok well my drive shaft cv joint is being a pain in the arese an seems we cant find a solution :(
are all driveshafts in the mk4 1.8t the same?
we tried the diesel one that was too short the standard 1.8t one is too long
its keeps muckng up the cv joint
so what can i so to rectify the problem please help i would actuallylike my car back this century :cry:

If you lower the car you are altering the geometry of the drive shaft in relation to the hub which in effect lengthens it slightly in relation to it's position rather than the physical size of the shaft :huh:

im thinking im just gonna have to bite some of my pride an raise her up a bit :sad:

so in theroy if you want to stop breaking drive shafts you just need to raise it up??

its either raise suspension or raise the engine to take the stress off the cv joint

By CV joint im guessing you mean Outer CV joint as theres an Inner. And size as in width/essential length are all the same but dependent on what engine model the diameter of the CV is different - I.e wrong one wouldn't even fit onto the driveshaft splines.
Can i ask what CV's your using ? The 5 speed shaft spliners are smaller than 6 speed, when i had 5 speed i shattered them all the time but they were from motor factors. You using Genuine ones?

and just ordered me a genuuine one :)

Try genuine or raise it. They seem the only viable options to me. It may look good that low on such big wheels when its parked but sat at the side of the road again broken down is not the look for this summer (well, actually it seems to be for me but that another story)! It will be more fun once its sorted even if its a bit higher.
Maybe a genuine one will work though.

Hello all, i am doing a r32 brake upgrade and have had to buy bigger hubs so the carriers will bolt straight on. This now causes issues with the DRIVESHAFT.... i was wondering if anyone knew whether the spline size is the same across all of the mk4 range? The width and the length of the actual driveshaft are different across the range, by the sounds of it, but will the spline sizes be the same size to fit in the hubs/bearing. I dont want to take my car apart to find they are different sizes and then the driveshaft would be sloppy and sheer the splines.
Hope this makes sense....
Any help would be appreciated!
